Being of a philosophical disposition i was thunking "Is Dudeism a real religion?" whilst i was eating an emergency prawn curry that i made myself because the eggs in my wife's potato salad smelt like the drains up at our house in the hills.
then i thunkt back 20 years or some to what my buddhist friend John Peacock told me during a Kum Nye yoga weekend he was running at my teacher's house "the whole things about relaxation man". i was searching around the fried onions and 'Seeds of Change' sauce to see if i could find one last prawn, when it occured to me:

Relaxation puts you in touch with your true self

Your inner self is a manifestion of devine cosmic grooviness.

So taking it easy is the ultimate religion.

then I found the final prawn and kinda lost my train of thought.

Peace and mellow sativa,

Boston

Have you watched The Big Lebowski sir? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/
Have you been ordained as a Dudeist Priest? http://dudeism.com/ordination/

As Meekon5 so brilliantly  put it; Dudeism is not something you do, it is something you are.
Is Taoism a Religion, a Philosophy, a way of life?

Just in case you did not know. there are many answers and fine articles at http://dudeism.com/ and http://dudespaper.com/

Sure i seen the film; i'd like to take another look but I've been real busy trying to work out how to fit a stink pipe to the drains at my little yoga centre up in the hills.

i have to hook up the waste pipe from the appartment and the house to a single vent pipe. If i get it wrong it's a face full of shit for sure.

Any good links on dudenet with plumbing diagrams?

See I'm not even to comfortable with "Let 'take it easy' be all of the law".

Laws are for other religions (I did start by writing "Laws are for other people").

I still hearken back to the Buddhist idea that just because it works for me it may not work for you, but try it and see if it does.

Sorry but to quote myself from previously (just because I like this one):

"A Dude fills his house with oat soda and burgers from In-N-Out.
He sits out front with the door open.
If a reactionary,
or a nihilist,
should walk past and not notice,
what the fuck,
The Dude doesn't bother them.
But should a stranger pass and notice,
and approach the Dude,
he invites him in for a beverage,
And perhaps something to eat."
"I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and  that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road."
Stephen Hawking

Well now, there you go, and I think Do No Harm should be the prime directive. There's lots of ins and lots of outs here dudes, a lot of different threads...but that's cool...that's cool...as long as no one is peeing on anyone else's rug...it's all pretty damn cool.
Just saying. 8)

i really like the point about not getting into laws. that's a nice thing about this forum, it's helping me stretch my brain-cell and refine my concepts.
We have some Irish guys renting the yoga centre right now. i went up there bearing gifts of a barbeque, charcoal and some lighter blocks because i felt bad about the smell. they said "hey dude the smell has gone, leave it till an end of the season job".

Sometimes when the energy is good, things just kind of work out. I felt really happy so i lent them a little wooden boat i had made for my kids so that their children could play in the pool below the waterfall that's just outside the back garden. Good vibes all round

I remember seeing a quote from Plato on just this thing. So I googled it :) It goes something like "Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws."

I think this is a good thing to keep in mind that we can't force someone to "take it easy" but we can encourage it and I think that's the vibe in the community.

At least that's what I'm thinking...

I think that 'take it easy' is the law of the universe, in fact, 'taking it easy' is a scientific fact most often referred to as 'taking the path of least resistance'. In the organic world, every phenomenon naturally seeks the path of least resistance, be it water running down the side of a hill or conducted electricity for example.  Indeed, we ourselves are programmed to take the path of least resistance, if we were trying to get to a town that was over the otherside of two mountains, then we would walk between the mountains, or around them, or any other way that would avoid having to climb over the fucker's.

The problem lies in the manufactured world, which has attempted, and succeeded to seperate us from the laws of the universe.  There are some laws which are way bigger then us all, and 'the path of least resistance' is a law that I feel obliged to follow.

Peace Dudes.

Lotta in's and outs.
I believe the true self has a lotta strands.
A classic view is that it is strife that puts us in touch with our true self.
When forced to stare into the abyss.
The 1000 yard stare man.
Have you been experienced?

The classic "coming of age" tail where heroic character's must overcome adversity and thereby grow. In fact I believe that the Big Lebowski is just such a tail. It is at the end that the Dude states "the Dude Abides" just before the stranger "wraps her all up".

Course I'd rather kick back with some barley pops and Abide.
