I know that is pretty deep, but "fortunately I've been adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber."
my rug was also stolen
As a dude who has suffered the loss of a rug at one time or another, I just want to say.. hmmn? oh erm yeh, bummer, thats a.. thats a real bummer ;D

Well, English, that's a big compliment. I try to kill English as little as possible, but I'm not always successful.
For your benefit, greatspiritmonk - it's a line from the movie. Just so you know the unEnglish are welcome here too. The Stranger says:

I must say this thread is getting long, but thanks for welcoming me. How do I upload an image for my avatar? I dont really identify with any of the actors shown. Why wouldnt we have all the actors from TBL in there. I do identify with the Malibu COP, or Sherriff's deputy or what ever he was. But not a lot, I mean I wouldnt have thrown a coffee cup, I would have walked it over, you know. Look at me ramblin on, well lets get back to the story I'm about to tell ya...
Earlier today I was really feeling shitty, really down in the dumps. I signed up here, read some funny shit and thought 'fuck it'. Good vibes are emanating all around now, besides how bad can it be when your bowling scores are slowly, but steadily, improvin'.

Fuckin' A, Your honorable dudeness abides, be it UK or USA. It just struck me that I have a special thank you certificate from Nixon the President, with a reminder that I still had an additional six year obligation to my country. It's stored somewhere in a briefcase with my papers, just papers. My obligation lasted longer than his premature end as Pres. He probably said "fuck it" let's pose for a bowling picture, and off to Los Angeles he went. That's just like my reminiscence, man. That's what keeps everything so durn interestin'. ;D ;D

That sure is true, Rev. DD put it well in that article. But, of course, it is Andrea Dudette's right to refer to herself as she wishes. I can abide a Dude called Dudette. Dudette by name, Dude by nature :)

Hey man, I have been living "The Big Lebowski" way before this movie even came out... when they use to call it... "The Lazy Bum". I think these Cohen brothers assholes pissed on my rug and stole my life story (with a few changes) to keep it legal man. I had an X exactly like Bunny.
D'you mean Bunny?
or Fawn, in her earlier days on the family farm?
The Cohens, those creeps can roll, man.

Hello Dudeists.
Am Chrispy, 25 years old, hailing from Scotland. The Big Lebowski still sits in my top 5 movies of all time (with Ghostbusters!) but I only found out about Dudeism a week or so ago, after seeing the VW advert before the Bill Hicks movie I was at.
I've also found out about a bar in our fair city of Glasgow called Lebowskis, they've got a mighty line of White Russian cocktails. Haven't been yet, but I feel my first mission as a Dudeist has already been set.
Far out man.

ARGH! Typical. Years ago I spent about four months commuting to Glasgow for a data warehousing project.
Buddha bar on Sauchiehall Street still there? I know only bloody tourists go there, but when every things on expenses who cares?
Welcome,
Usual, bars over there, any rug in the place.
'Lo new dudes.
Ghostbusters and The Big Lebowski, damn near the same movie. I see that you like the spirituals.
A bar called Lebowski's? At least they didn't call it the Big Elbow Room. Sometimes you eat at the bar, sometimes the bar eats at you.

Oh yes and Hi Garden Dude.
Hey Dudes
So glad I had an achiever moment and actually got ordained. Totally feels right, like a good pair of sweats that fit, cozy, roomy and comfortable. Been doin' the spiritual wonderer thing a couple of years now, ya' know finding myself, used to kinda know myself, but then we both got really drunk for a few years. Yup during that time when I did find myself it was in a not so good place, totall gutterball moments, til I rolled a zero, that was enough for me. Began to remember some stuff I had checked out as a kid, and began meditating before I even checked out of spin dry.
So from there, you know, lotta ins an outs, different threads and whatnots, check'n in with my man Lao Tzu, and falling in love with Buddha, meaning the whole darned reallity. Yeah man realy riding that Eastern thing an..um, yeah, here I am. Lost my train of thought there, but I know what stop the train is at, and here it is.
Oh, the whole oatsoda caucasion thing, right I don't have those presently, been 5-6 years now, but my name is Gary, and I have no problem with mixxing and slinging to Dudes and strangers alike, not uptight 'bout it at all, hope you don't mind if I do a J.
Well enough of me blathering on, look forward to getting to know ya' all, peace.
Namaste

Hey everyone, new Dude here. I don't know why I just found out there was a forum for this stuff, I'm totally digging the place. I'm really into the whole Dudeist thing going on here, but I'm having trouble defining my inner-dude. Thought this would probably be the place to figure out all my ins and outs.

I have a rug. It's not a king amongst rugs. It's not even a wool rug. Hell,it's not even 6 foot long.
But this rug, which is casually reposing in front of my sofa has travelled.
You see, I am a bit of a camper.I have a Bell Tent.I do 'classic' camping.
And this rug has been places.I will never hoover this rug.How could I remove the essence of all the fields in which it has lain?
Actually,this is a Blashford-Snell of rugs.Been there,done it.Me an' this rug! We're like that.(Image not transcribable).

Greetings Dudes.. Brand new dude here. Literally just finished watching the film for the first time and i decided to search the internet for some reviews, clips, soundtracks etc...only to discover a religion!!! Anyways im just here to let y'all know i have been converted and i have seen the light. I am currently trying to become "Ordained" however on my certificate it says my name is "Get Ordname" i filled in the forms with my real name etc..any help? If not, no worries..its great to be here and i look forward to a long and mellow journey into the world of Dudeism :)
All the usual welcomes Dudepenguin bar is over there, take any rug in the place.
As for the ordination certificate if you order the printed one you can get what you want on the thing, as for the online form, do make sure you've got all the java etc turned on. Otherwise a quick note to forumdude he may be able to cure the problem.
welcome to the forum and what-have-you.
meekon said what i was about to regarding dude-ettes, SO not the preferred nomenclature. personally although i wear a bra and lipstick, have a sweet voice and a vagina, bristle at the thought of being anything other than a dude. i dont even like to be called my husbands 'special lady friend' but im working on it! anyway, welcome to the bungalow of abiding.
sorry! i disabled a plugin that caused that function to stop working. please try again!
WTF? Is this a function that affects us all? Is this a function that stops the word Dudette? Is this a function that perchance could lock threads :) (Smiley cos I'm making a fucking joke dudes!) Is this a function that disables humour? We should be told!

i think i have asked this before but at what point do we get recognised as a "proper" religion by the government (UK)? is there a set number of followers? and can we get special discompensation like Rastafarians for use of certain illegal substances in the exercising of our religion?

No it needs the passing of legislation to "recognise" us as legitimate unfortunately.
The census thing is crap.
Quote from: Jedi census phenomenon wikipedia.org
Officials from the Office for National Statistics pointed out that this merely means that it has been registered as a common answer to the "religion" question and that this does not confer on it the status of official recognition.
The Rasta thing is not proven, but lies in the same grounds as not arresting people who only have enough to use themselves and are not "dealing"
The smoking think is not a sacred rite, in Dudeism, it's not looked down on, but it's not a prescribed practice (like communion).
I've written before how the only reliable legal stance we have is with the Human rights act (both UN and EU) or UDHR (get your own copy here (http://www.un.org/events/humanrights/2007/hrphotos/declaration%20_eng.pdf)). Again there is a clause:
Quote from: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights - United Nations
Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Problem lies with European Convention on Human Rights which states further:
Quote from: European Convention on Human Rights
Article 9
Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
1. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance.
2. Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs shall be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.
"subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law"
So in fact the Rasta's are not legally allowed to smoke their stuff but are not subject to arrest only by mutual agreement from the police.
Our own Human Rights Act 1998 is only an enabling act that allows individuals to sue under the act in English courts, rather than, as before, having to go to the European court of Human Rights (nothing to do with the EU economic group) to get a judgment.
In answer to your question:
Quote from: milnie on September 30, 2011, 09:15:09 AM
i think i have asked this before but at what point do we get recognised as a "proper" religion by the government (UK)? is there a set number of followers? and can we get special discompensation like Rastafarians for use of certain illegal substances in the exercising of our religion?
When we have enough people to support a lobby group that can effect the tabling and passing of a bill of legislation to make us a recognised religion.
M5,Daniel Hagman was one of Sharps (Sean Bean, being rude about the Cave Troll) Chosen Men.
IMO I think it would be poor day should Dudeism become a recognised religion.
That would be like, fitting us into a pigeonhole with all the other uptight types.
Is Taoism a recognised religion?I thought it was just like, a way of life.A perspective.
Religions 'believe' in things and have 'faith'.
I believe I'll have another beer.

Hey Dudes,
Just thought I would stick my head in here and introduce myself. I'm a 54 year old graphic designer, guitar player and computer geek living in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. The Valley of the Sun we call it. I'm in a little town southeast of Phoenix, goes by the name of Gilbert, AZ. The tools of my graphics trade are: CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, InkScape, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Adobe Photoshop. I code both CSS and HTML with DreamWeaver.
My sonic sculpting tools are: Black Gibson Les Paul Custom, Dark Candy Apple Red Fender Stratocaster with a maple neck both of which have been extensively customized with EMG pickups, active electronics, Sperzel tuning keys, Teflon impregnated graphite nuts, et cetera. I also have a plain vanilla Washburn D10S acoustic guitar.
On the IT front I've been into computers since I was a teenager. I built my first computer an 8088 from a Heathkit/Zenith kit. My next one was a white box 286 with with an Intel Visual Edge Card with 16 MB of RAM on it so I could print 600 by 600 resolution on my normally 300 dpi res HP LaserJet. At the time I was using a PostScript emulator called Freedom of Press. With CorelDRAW 2 and Ventura Publisher I was able to do some pretty spiffy desktop publishing on the cheap. Unfortunately most people didn't believe you could do good desktop publishing on anything other than a Mac so I had a hard time.
That was many times many years ago. Now I can do all the same typography and graphics without half of that hardware and complexity.
I even have my guitars piped into my PC with a USB adapter that takes care of the AD/DA conversion. Any special effects I want the computer can synthesize them for me.
So mostly I spend my time reading, listening to audio books, listening to music, playing music, drawing on my computer, dithering with HTML code, chatting with people online (mostly IRC) and studying for school. I have my CompTIA A+ Certification and I'm in school for my Cisco Certified Network Associate degree (CCNA).
That and I go bowling in downtown Gilbert,AZ at the Brunswick Zone XL, Place is gianormous. I just go there to socialize and bowl but the place has everything from Lazer Tag to Pool Tables.
They even have a Pro Bowler shop so I can eventually get my own bag, ball, glove and shoes.
Get them to drill holes just for my little hands. That would be so cool to have a custom ball.
Anyway, that's my story for now.
Stay mellow and keep on rollin' Dudes.
Sounds Exhausting. 8)
So,this desert............................................

Your question suggests a duality that I personally don't believe exists, there is no good or bad Dude because this suggests value judgments that a Dude doesn't make. A Dude just is.
Anyway welcome to our little community, pull up a rug.

perhaps an experiment should be set up to determine the relationship between oat sodas consumed and hours slept, but you will need to factor in a reducer for strength of hangover. I'm sure there will be plenty of volunteers in here to aid in the study, provided the beer is free!

Think it has something to do with the number of posts. We used to have stupid names if you post so many post but we got rid of those when forumdude put in the 10 post limit to go from amateur to dude. I mean really...after Dude what else is there? 8)
And this Admin thing after my name...that just means I'm a janitor and clean up the place at nights...you know spammers and do a little maintenance to keep the board running smoothly.
Well alright. Thanks for the info, dude :)
Hey man, is this a... the right place to post intros man? Well anyway I'm new here but a long time abider. This place is pretty far out, think you got room for one more? Look forward to talking about life's strikes and gutters with all you acheivers out there!
Welcome aboard, Dude. I'm new here myself! It's a pretty awesome hangout... I hope you have some fun. ;D
A hearty dudeist welcome to all the new dudes. Welcome to the boards....feel free to browse the old threads and comment at will.
Peace dudes. :)

Anyways, can't wait to get to know all you other dudeist dudes on these here Dudeism forum.

It keeps the spammer away...mostly anyway. 8)

Don't normally smoke'em, but I do drink'em...beverages that is...
Hmmm...ten posts you say...no prob...no spammer here, unless of course you count the consumption of the canned ham product.
Hey dudes, after very little thought (and a very long nap) I decided to register for the forums. I just recently discovered "Dudeism" (thanks to my little bro)... it's a pretty cool religion. I've been a dude for ever but it's good to put a name to the philosophy... I don't know how often ill post... hopefully everyday. The people on this site seem pretty awesome.
Well, I should probably wrap this up. Peace, Dudes. Have a good one.

Via word of mouth amid a spine-tingling game of 'Fuzzy Duck'.

Like I've seen many others post, I've always been a Dude, I share a few similarites with the Dude, but mostly just his willingness to take it easy, I don't really smoke weed or bowl, but thats cool if your into that sort of thing. My philosophy has always been one that pretty much looks to flow with whatevers going on at the moment, I live in a pretty uptight desert community where people find it hard to understand my laid back attitude, I grew up being told I lacked, "ambition" but the truth was I was simply okay with what I had, my highest aspiration was to find a stable job like maybe a janitor or something along those lines and find a place to lay down my head and maybe have a few beers with some friends, and maybe get hitched one day, maayyybbee have a kid. Thats pretty much what I found and I've been content ever since, sure raising a little dude gets exhausting but I rarely bring out the inner Walter, the kids pretty laid back too. Anyway I've rambled enough, good to be here dudes.

Well - I have a brief news story: My son, who at 18 can now purchase white russians legally, had several of his compeers over for a TBL viewing and evening of white russians. they are obvious amateurs, I had to explain what it meant to have "help choppering in", and what an "oat soda" was. (can you believe it?)
So, with the movie on, all 6 of them made their best effort at the 40 Oz. vodka and 40 oz. Bailey's, with some 1/2 and 1/2 from the local grocery store. Yes I said Bailey's. They did not see a difference between Bailey's and Kahlua. Fuckin amateurs. Half of each bottle is still full this morning. I have more parenting to do, as this will not stand.
I did my best - yet my son is a dunce?

I have responsibilty for my grandson who is 15. After a weekend spent jammin' with his mates, he plays the guitar, he went to school on the monday with a hangover but took it like a man. He's a Royal Marine Cadet so he knows how to play hard. He also knows he's not going to do that again. As for an appreciation of things, he has read Chickenhawk and watched every episode of Tour Of Duty. I have restricted him to low ABV cider for the moment. White Russians can wait. At least he is not on lager and lime like I was at his age. And he spends his time teaching himself to play musical instruments instead of bar billiards. I regard this as progress.
I will try my best to be like a rug.
I will tie the room together and live with the stains.

Hello Dudes!
newbie here. a big Big Lebowski fan who only recently started to realize the movie is not so much about the events or the plot as it is about a way of life.
things haven't been very smooth lately, and I found myself thinking that people overreact and overcomplicate simple things too much. there's constant turmoil that I get sucked into when I just want to take it easy.
was very stressed at work so I started googling around some Dude stuff during a break to chill myself out, and that's how i got here. Very nice to see so many people out there trying to take it easy. I really hope to find my place in this community here, as from what I've read it seems to share many of my views on life.

Hi Dudes! I've been lurking the forums for around a year now and got ordained a few months ago. Thought it was time I finally joined in.
I don't remember how it was that I found out about Dudeism, but I have been a fan of the ancient Stoics like Epitetus for quite a while, and Dudeism seems to have a lot in common. They both really tie the philosophical worldview together. 8)

Hi, I became a member of this forum to get to know the Dudes or dudes and to invite them to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. A few of us Big Lebowski fans have decided to parade thru the French Quarter on Fat Tuesday as the Big Lebowski Krewe. Anybody in costume is welcome to join us. We will meet at 10AM in front of the cathedral in Jackson Square.
Far out, man! Not in the Big Easy or I'd be there, man.

Wish I could join you, always wanted to do Mardi Gras when I lived in Florida but never was able to get there. I did get to attend the wedding of a rich friend there a while back and while it wasn't Mardi Gras, it was fun. Nice being the guest of a rich person, then later make fun of the dresses (the bride had a different multi-thousand $ dress for each part of the day).
Welcome aboard, MGElvis. Wish I could make it, seeing as I'm Acadian (yay, Nova Scotia!). We shall see!

Been lurkin' for a while, figured I would step in and say hi with a short story.
About six months ago I was thrust into single parenthood. Little dude and I are getting by, but I had to put the little duderino in day care with other little suburban achievers. He, by all accounts, is doing well. If another achiever is upset, he'll offer up 2 1/2 year old compassion. He is acting very dude like, despite the upheaval.
Yesterday when picking him up, one of the people that work that told me that something odd happened. Two of the boys in the room were fighting over a toy. My little dude steps up to them, putting a hand on each of their shoulders and goes. "No. No. No. No stand." Then takes his hand brings it between the the two other dudes and goes "Slowwww".
Daycare Lady ask me what I thought that meant. I was chuckling. I had to explain to her that little dude's parlance. This is what he was saying:
"This aggression will not stand."
"Abide."
I was just so proud of my little dude.
That is awesome
Welcome and may you abide well

You are welcome, low gear; welcome to our party. Come and chill with us for a while, please. What's your drink, dude?
It has come to my attention that the idea of a Christian identifying with Dudeism is oxymoron by Oliver's own thinking and opinion. That atheism would be the basis but likes poetry aspects of those who do believe in a God. Ironic so many concepts of God are in the movie but wanting to control and subdue it based on your opinion of anti-theism is uptight and in the face of what the Dude is, A misplaced spiritual hippie in an all to fast paced world. To bad you all do not know or are blind to what the movements were about and what they believed. Not even Shaggy, Bob Marley, nor J Lennon would be down with this. The sick attacking I just had is example of anti-theist that is willing to do what they say they are against.
So I want my name off this forum and it publicly known that Shagbeard is not with, nor down with Anti-God, Anti-Theist, Antichrist, and what have yous. I renounce such disgusting and hateful things that clearly Oliver wants as Dudeism by him. Take my name off the forum and of your minister roll, Oliver.
Dudeism is not this way! This is hateful, attacking, uptight and exactly what the Dude was against. Plus quite shallow in spirituality.
Well I dig your style shagbeard but you need to do what your heart tells you too. I'll miss your posts I liked your position I think any religion should be open to an individuals intupretation. There is no cookie cutter for the soul. I wish you all the best.
And so it goes with theists trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with beliefs that defy logic and common sense. BD said earlier (I'll paraphrase), that trying to make the bible say something it's not is a fool's errand. These old writings are what they are, there's not getting around it. If Shag dude is really seeking the truth, he'll eventually figure that out. Until he does, he'll be insulted and offended by anyone holding a mirror up to him.
The bible has good things in it as well everybody finds what they need where they need it. I think shag is one of the good ones he sees the bible as it should be. Open to interpretation not the absolute truth but an assortment of ideas that you can learn from. Shooting him down and being disrespectful serves no purpose.
Nobody shot him down or disrespected him. He was faced with the contradiction of self-applying the label "Christian", yet not self-applying what the bible says. It's a logical fallacy to do so, and BD was pointing that out in a very succinct way. Lots of people want to give themselves titles and labels, but don't take the tenets of that belief system seriously. People who do that will eventually get called on it at some point.
So yes, the bible - and any other "sacred" writings, do indeed have good things in them; principals and advice that the world would be better off living by. Most of us know by instinct what is moral and what isn't anyways...

But where are you getting this idea from?
The Vatican does not allow for that. Nor does Judaism or Islam or whatever.
Somehow in this day and age people just go ahead and make this claim but there is no support for the presumption that beliefs are some personal interpretation.
All - let's leave this thread for its original intent - to welcome new dudes... If you want to engage in debate, may I suggest we carry it forward to another forum.
This is where it began for me in here, so this is where it will end in here. I am all that I say I am and it is clear that Oliver and many others are against it. Yes, they can say all they want but at end of day I can look in mirror and sleep at night knowing I am not like the sectarians of the organizations. So all of you trying to call me out for whatever are like sounding bells. The very fact that you all know nothing except what little you have seen here and have done this making me feel very unwelcome proves you are being exactly what you say you are against. Peace and may all here find there way as best they can. Hope the best for you all.
Oliver - Dudely Lama - forumdude, Please delete my account and take my name of of your minister roll. I can not abide anti-theist stuff and the support of all that. I denounce the expression of Dudeism as anti-god and only borrowing for poetic.
Happy trails Shag dude... no hard feelings...
'Til we meet again, Shagbeard. I wish you the best of luck finding a non-theistic religious organization that welcomes and embraces your theism.

This was my email response to Shagbeard. I think he may stick around:
Shagbeard, you've got it wrong, man Dudeism welcomes Christian Dudeists. As you've noticed, people on the forum are totally cool to you. It's only Icon that they have a problem with. That's because Dudeism is not anti-Theist, it is anti-zealotry and anti-idealist. Icon was banned because he was deliberately baiting people and causing arguments that didn't have any point. He wasn't a "gadfly" as he calls it but rather just a provacateur. And that's now what we want here. We want Dudeism to be a kind, easygoing and relaxing place.
We'd love to have you stay. Honestly I think Icon has an axe to grind and I sympathize with him but he can't be allowed to hijack our quiet little beach community. Some people don't get Dudeism. You do, Icon doesn't.

Ahoy Dudes and Dudettes,
This dude needs a hand. I'm not asking to get two detectives on the case or anything, but have a query.
I've been an ordained Dudeist Priest for around 5 years. A dear friend asked me to officiate his wedding recently and I re-ordained under my full legal name just to be safe. So I'm waiting on my credentials including my letter of good standing, which I've got to send to the New York City county clerk to get registered as an officiant in the city. I've been trying to get in touch with the Dudes In Charge around here to ask if a dude can have a favor and get my new priest materials sent to me in expedited fashion - I'm afraid I won't get registered in time. Anyone know how to get in touch with the folks in charge of that?
Also, if anyone has advice on becoming a legal wedding officiant in NYC, I would be most most grateful.
Abide,
Denver
Denver, welcome, bar's over there grab a rug.
Small point about nomenclature, "Dudette" is not an accepted term on the forum, a Dude is a dude no matter what their gender (like a doctor), we don't differentiate between the two.
Nice to have you along Dude.
As for the favor, the person who will sign your paperwork is on the forum here, so he'll see this the next time he logs in. Don't know if he can speed things up, but at least he'll get the message.

I've been a Dudeist Priest for a couple of years now, and I've gotta say it's changed my life. Rugs and beers grab them as you need and welcome.
Simple answer to your question is no, they don't recognise it. It actually takes an act of parliament to make a religion "recognised" under english law. Not the farce in the last census where everyone was saying put down "jedi" as your religion and they have to recognise it, not true, they don't.
Tend to rely on the provisions of the european court of human rights and section eight (I think it is) of the european Human rights treaty.
We keep trying to organise local leagues to meet in the UK, the south coast regional met a few times (basically Portsmouth and other areas close by) but suffered from a lack of motivation (we met a few times which was nice but haven't had time to organise anything else).
Would like to try to organise a London League meeting some time, not a lebowski fest, just a meet and a few pints. I think the last time we got together was when Oliver did the Idler a while back.

I hail from East Sussex myself, Kickin' back in sunny old Hastings. Pretty chilled place for a dude to hand but they took away the bowling alley recently. Major bummer.

Evenin' dudes. Or whatever it is when it's midnight. From the UK, I actually got ordained a good few years ago. But never found the time to register. Dudeism was always the one for me but no matter how hard I try to really feel it, I struggle. Too much stress man.
Welcome. We all have our occasional relapse. Enjoy your time in the zone.

What's up all? I'm new to Dudeism, but i love the idea of inner peace, and i mean, who doesn't love "The Big Lebowski"? Definitely one of my top threes. Sonofa...I'm jealous, dude. Successful pro-poker player is right up there with successful golfer as my ideal job. I can't do either. So, yeah, I kinda hate you.
Tell me this, though: You are playing a no-limit, 6-8 handed, hold-em game with roughly equal stacks. You get dealt K/2 suited and bet. One player to your left and one player to your right each call. The flop comes K/9 off-suite and 8 suited. You bet and get raised.
What do you do? Or do you avoid getting in the situation? If so, where and why?

First of all, dudes I finally kinda got my shit together and joined. Sorry it took so long, but there's always stuff to do, ya know? Plus I was out of Kahlua.
So anyway, JG, I think you call, but don't put any more money in. You got kicker problems and you really wanna be 4-flushed after the flop to gamble on getting a flush. You might bluff a flush if you get a 4th suited card.
Or you could say fuggit and get yourself a beverage.
Alright, Belgian dude here, living and working (bartending) in Norway though.

I'm a newbe... actually I've been a dudeist for about 20 years without knowing there was such thing as the dudeism, but only few days ago I've been ordained Dudeist Priest :)
I'm 40 and I'm from Italy (so I apologize in advance for my English mistakes... but anyway I know you'll take it easy about them :P).
After two years travelling around in New Zealand, now I'm back in Italy 'cos, unfortunately, white russians and smoke are not for free.... but I'm taking it easy and waiting for the job to find me :D
In the meantime, I hope I will spend the time I don't bowl or drive around reading something interesting here. I lurked around and I really think that's very likely.
Have a nice day you all!!!

Welcome, dude. Your English is really rather good. Don't sweat it.
My uncle/godfather's parents were from Italy, so don't worry about your English. Unfortunately my Italian is so rusty I can only insult you and question your mother's fidelity. Which I won't do. :)

Hi, Curly Lead from wet and windy West Wales here. Newly ordained and raring to Abide.
Hiya Curly :)
Welcome!
I've recently become an ordained Dudeist Priest. I've read the abide guide and it's really tying my room together. The majority of viewpoints and philosophies fit right in with the ethos I have always had.
However, I've noticed a couple of things in general. First of all, a lot of the comments on the facebook page and indeed on this forum, seem to come from people who view Dudeism as a joke religion. Indeed, some of the comments seem to be pretty much undude.
Secondly, some of those revered as Great Dudes in History could never be described as lazy. Sure, they may have taken it easy and promoted an ethos of doing the right thing and treating people right, but they were clearly high achievers in whatever they set out to do.
I'd be interested to hear the views of some other practicing Dudes on these matters. It's just, like, my opinion man. Discuss. :)

1. I wouldn't worry about that shit. Just like any other religion you can take Dudeism as seriously or non seriously as you desire to, no ones really stopping you or the other posters. Dudeism, as far as I can tell does not really take itself seriously anyway, you won't find a lot of us out evangelizing others to our cause because whats a cause? Also what might be adding to your confusion is that the goal of Dudeism isn't necessarily to become more like The Dude from the movie, rather it's to life your life true to yourself while enjoying the ups and downs of life together with good friends or what have you. And not everyone is as passive and easygoing as the Dude, some are. But others are more heavy on the Walter side, while others might be more like Maude or Donny, or a Nihilist. It is much more like Taoism in that it's got that whole ying yang and non duality thing going on.
2. I think my point from number one applies here as well. Those great Dudes of history may have been achievers but they were true to who they were, the only difference between a great dude in history and a regular dude as far as I can tell is the the great dudes affected many people with their dudeness.
Hi dudes just got ordained today been living the just let it be lifestyle for years I'm happy to be here with you dudes
Hiya RB, and Lostsoul! Good to have you guys here, welcome :)
And by the by, RB - I wouldn't worry so much about what Dudeism means to other people. Just what it means to you. There is all kinds of uptight thinking stapled to some words (like "lazy"). Many hard workers and great achievers have been considered lazy by others, for simply not having the same goals.

G'day dudes,
I just signed up here and wanted to come and say hi since that seemed like the most polite thing to do.
I discovered Dudeism after watching The Big Lebowski again and searching for some Lebowski inspirational quotes online, since I wanted to be a bit more Dude in general (and a lot less Walter) for reasons of life pressure/stress.
I like to ride motorbikes, and taking it easy, hence the name.
I'd type more but it's starting to feel like a hassle, so I'll leave it there.
Cheers,
EasyRider

My name is Radek, I was interested in buddhism for some time, but it never kind of tied the world together, but thats just like my opinion. I found out about when my friend "liked" it on facebook, I kind of took it as a joke, "liked" it too because I loved the movie and never though about it again until recently.
I've moved to diffrent city all alone, pointless job, new university studies, no time for myself, I started to be very undude, like having a real marmot in my bathtub. Then I saw a "cant be worried about that shit" article on dudespaper, started reading more and I was like yeah, given the nature of all this new shit it I thought it could be a lot more uh, uh complex, its not some weird fucking eastern thing that I can only know second-handed and translated, its the dude, el duderino (when im not into the whole brevity thing), I can do that! So you know, I still was in kind of a "fake it till you make it" territory, new shit kept coming to light, lot of ins, lot of outs, lot of what-have-yous, but you know Im trying to keep my mind limber and life goes on, cant be worried about that shit!
So when last week was going better than expected I got myself ordained and now finally having some free time on the weekend, sitting with a beverage listening to dudeism FM on jango (they play some Eagles, but its fine), I registered here and, uh, I lost my train of thought. Anyway, I saw the ABC piece on dudeism and though it might be fun to see other dudeists!
Well, that about does it, greetings from Poland!
I dont care about bowling though...

What's shaken Dudes and Dudettes?
Just an old Dude from Phrezurdixoph MI. (Northern Lower peninsula) sorta chillin' and reading some Wú Chéng'en, reckon it's 'bout time to sit a spell and say howdy.
Been walkin' the path for about 30 years, boots are worn and the stories are many. Studied 'bout every "ism" you can think of and after weighing a preponderance of experience, books, mentors, women, drugs and spirited beverages it became obvious I am a Dudeist. I try to blend it with a little Z.B. to keep me grounded in anti-materialism, at least while I am bowling, er shooting. I don't Bowl, it tosses my spine every darn time. A Dude once said: "Brevity is the soul of wit", so shut the fuck up and have a drink, make mine Tequila Dude, cream make this old Dude fat.
Hey, by the way: I am Ordained, willing and able to perform weddings in Northern Michigan.
As a bonus I am also a high level Sommelier, Iaido practitioner and singing Cowboy (seriously). 8)
My Dude-fu is strong and I can throw a good ceremony at a number of levels. Years of running a strip club make a Dude tough.

Greeting fellow Dudes,
I have recently joined the lifestyle that is known as Dudeism. I have been searching for a way to guide myself, and I have found it in Dudeism. This one was abiding, relaxing and letting everything flow, and I have found the "religion" to suit my way of living. I am honored to be a member of this community and will do my best to not try too hard to be the best me there could be. Thank the Dude I live in the Netherlands, with an array of resources to keep my mind as limber as it could be.
I invite you all to enjoy in this limberness on the peice of land that I call home.

I've lurked in the shadows for about 4yrs checking out whether this was a real thing. It seemed too easy and yet too real for the time.
I became ordained back on April 15, 2015. Still learning to take it easy, lol The trial of a lifetime.

Hi dudes !
Ugo, 39yo, kind of eco-anarchist, agnostic, skeptical, pacifist dude.
I may look not humble saying when it comes to dudeness I'm a natural, but I start to know how I work and people say stuff making me think it's mostly true.
I'm French, which explains my weird English and passion for politic and history of screwed revolutions.
I also like climbing trees.
I'm a priest since a couple of days, after like a year of thinking, joining a religion is not a light decision to me. But i herd somebody talking about open source religion and that sounds really good as I deeply agree on basics. Had a nice ordination party with friends and white russians. A healthy f*ck that time. I take it seriously while having fun.
I'll be happy to share with you. Cheers !

Sorry if I post a lot during a slacking time. You know newcomers, they have ideas about everything, you know...

New Dude on board from Atlanta area. Glad to be here. Looking forward to just hanging out.
Also going to look into the laws/bullshit involved in officiating some weddings. I've done two eulogies before, so I think I should get a chance to lead a happier ceremony. Have some friends and family in both GA and VA that could totally abide me doing a wedding ceremony for them.
Anyway, nice place you got here. Rug really pulls it together.

All joking aside, I did like that show. Really well written and performed. That era of sitcoms is missed greatly in this desert of reality TV.
The Will and Grace DVD's belong to my girlfriend. And yeah 90's TV series were much better

Man I can't remember the last time I saw a VCR!
I still have - get this - a 23" TV combo with a VCR and DVD player that I won in a contest. I may just make some money selling it in 20 years. ;-)
Wow, Man! It's kind of crazy to think that my kids will never know that TV's used to come with a fatter ass than a Kardashian!
And those old TVs were durable as fuck too. I remember pulling down an entire solid wood wall unit onto an old tube TV with the TV on. Lifted up the unit and the only thing wrong with the TV was a small crack in the plastic, picture and sound were still perfect
I can't wait for my next beer
The last time I had any interaction with one of those TVs I was carrying it down the stairs, missed a step, snapped my ankle, and landed at the bottom with the TV on top of me...not one scratch on the TV. Those damn things were tougher than I am that's for sure, haha.
We have an old RCA TV in our bedroom that we've had for at least 25 years, and it still works fine (though, admittedly, we don't use it much). On the other hand, in the living room we're on our third TV since 1999. These modern big-screen TVs might have better picture quality, but they sure as shit don't last long.
Gotta love those kind of nights you can sit outside, have a few barley sandwiches and not have to worry about a damn thing. I've been sitting out in my garage for the last few hours drinking a few beers, no thought in mind, just reveling in the moment. Don't think it can get much better.
I can't wait for my next beer
Garage/Driveway parties are one of my favorite warm night activities. A few oat sodas and a neighborhood to watch really makes for a relaxing evening, I'm jealous haha.
Haha, well I am out in the country so there really isn't much community to watch, but country nights are so much better. Sorry for making you jealous, didn't mean too
I can't wait for my next beer
No worries! There isn't much that wouldn't make me jealous considering I'm stuck on an inmate housing unit when it's such a beautiful night outside!

I hear you there. Owning a few acres would be ideal but it's not in the cards right now. A nice piece of land where I can set up my own range...perfect.

Hello fellow dudes!
You all have a new member on your hands! I'm born and raised in the state of Iowa but I'll be in Colorado for the next few years. I've been aware of Dudeism for a couple years now, and I've done some reading. I've read the Dudeism.com website, skimmed the Wikipedia, and even visited this forum as a guest. I've listened to a few episodes of StAugustineDude's Dudecast, and watched some videos by Rev. Dudely Noted. I've never engaged in the conversation, but I'm ready to now. I know that you Dudes who regularly post here are capable of some pretty deep thought. Like I said, I've seen it. I recently read Rev. Gary Silva's article on the presidential race. http://dudespaper.com/calm-and-reason-for-a-better-tomorrow.html/ (http://dudespaper.com/calm-and-reason-for-a-better-tomorrow.html/) Silva's main point was that, when it comes to the election, what's really important is to "to elect a more abiding state of mind." He deliberately avoided recommending a party or candidate. The only advice he gave was to use "Calm and Reason" when selecting your preference. I think this was an intelligent way to give advice, considering that radicals exist on both sides of the spectrum. They exist in the Westboro Baptist Church on the right and in Baltimore rioters on the left.
Any well informed Dude wouldn't blindly follow groups like these based solely on their political affiliation. Whether they're a conservative Christian Dude who wholeheartedly believes in a higher power or a liberal Dude who backs Black Lives Matter. Any Dude worth their salt would see that hate and fear are not the most effective ways to get people listening. I think we also need to remember that you don't have to be a radical to abandon Calm and Reason. For example, I feel that, in my experience, conservatives and Christians often get shut down when they enter a political conversation. (I'd like the say that this is coming from a nonreligious and moderate Dude. This is purely observation.) I've spent almost all of my life so far in school, which is traditionally a rather liberal setting. When politics get brought up I can usually predict how it's going to go. Liberal ideas are praised while conservative ones are bashed. What's more, it isn't rare for conservatives to be labeled as wacky or for Christians to be labeled as irrational. I'd argue that it's wacky and irrational to throw out ideas based purely on who holds them. The rational thing to do is think through different views and understand why they have merit. Different perspectives are valuable. A different point of view can allow you to see holes in your argument. Embracing other points of view gives you the opportunity and insight to diversify your beliefs. A diversity of beliefs widens you lens of the world and allows you to see more clearly. If you see clearly, you can make more informed decisions. I think that everyone wants to make informed decisions.
I think that in order to better our society, we need open conversation. In open conversion, you honestly listen to the other person's ideas. It's okay to disagree, but think about why you disagree. Don't be afraid to agree too. That doesn't mean you're wrong or your argument is weak. It means you're doing it right. Conversation like that is supposed to influence your thinking. At least that's my take in it. I'd like to finish by asking you Dudes what you think of all this. Am I completely off in my thinking? I'd also be interested in knowing where you're coming from in your thinking. (Faith/Political leaning)
Thanks everyone!

Hey, thanks man.
I'm a Dude from what back (a joke made funnier when you see me, and then even more so when you realize how i think).
I am happily ordained now, and plan to spread awareness and receive the realizations which surround me.... and then talk to my friends at length about it.
As The Dude abides.
@ScholarlyDude
False equivalency is a fallacy, just as much as ad hominem. But, as you say, people should try to learn from each other. My situation requires many long hours of hard labor. I tire of academic discussion, and am continually frustrated by my inability to avoid being impressed by my own questionably-useful ideas. Welcome, and may you be successful in providing irrelevant and voluminous pontification in my stead.

Greetings fellow dudes an dudettes, I'm a brother from Australia, having been ordained in 2013 I have finally been granted the opportunity to be a celebrant at my best friends wedding however I am unsure of the legalities, can someone please help me or point me in the right direction to obtain further information as to wether I can legally sends these dudes into matrimony
Peace and blessings to you all ✌🏼✌🏼
Well Dude, we just don't know. But seeing as you are the one in Australia, you are in a unique position to either confirm or disconfirm the legalities of the ceremonial proceedingslo you wish to perform. I would start by going to your local town hall or other local municipality building where the uptight suits reside and advise them that you are an ordained minister in the Church of the Latter Day Dude, and be sure to bring your letter of ordination in case they don't believe you, and ask them if you need to fill out any paperwork with their office to make the ceremony legit. That's what I did here in my neck of the woods, but every place is different man. So...best of luck and see ya on down the trail.
Greetings, fellow Dudeists!
Greetings. Is that Dr. Mantis Tobaggon M.D.?
Hello, everybody!

Right on!
Get a lane.
Hey all,
Newly ordained here - and excited to be around. From Australia and cant wait to meet/talk to all the dudes around.
Good Morning my fellow Dudes and Dudettes,
I am a newly Ordained Minister here in Dudesville, I am based in Australia and after lurking around for a little bit after seeing the fantastic community we have here, and understanding more about Dudeism I knew that I wanted to be involved - its such a great message (and way of life) whether you are a big fan of TBL or not.
I am grateful for the Dudely Lama for creating this way of life and to all of you for making it what it is. Over 450 000 people around the world are ordained, sure some are passing through but that's cool man... but after reading through the threads on here there is a large number who are in this for the long haul.
I look forward to meeting you all - even if it is just on these forums.

Well, I finally made it! I'm a University Science grad and a retired carpenter of 68. Did not like a supervisor's lab job so I went into carpentry. I'm a Finnish born Canuck!
Greetings and Salutations and all that fancy stuff...
Was formerly Chaplain K but forgot my log in info... Sigh... That's what I get for living in an area with no fewer than four weed stores within blocks! :D
Anyway, have a great June - and keep on keepin' on!
Greetings, I got ordained 2 or 3 years ago. Found my way to dudeism from a discussion another forum.
I live in New Zealand.
Thanks for letting me join.
I was ordained September of 2015, spent the last 3 years living the monastic life on Snow Mountain. I abide, I keep my mind limber, read, ponder, and contemplate the grand theater from the uppermost balcony.

Hi, I am so glad to join this forum for general discussion.I am new visitor her , thanks for it ..
Hey Folks,
How the heck is everyone doing?
I became Father Bill back in March and I just joined the forum and wanted to say Hi to all the fellow Dudes.
I'm disabled after working to many fracking years in construction. So now I paint paintings. Why the hell not I painted buildings, inside, outside, built them, tore them down and every damn thing you can thing of. I've always be into art, so screw it I do it all the time now. I get the good old, Oh that's a nice painting from bummer dudes. But they won't buy the blasted thing LOL
Why did it take me so long to join the forum? I guess I had one to many or maybe because I'm just fracking old and I don't give a chit, I don't know :)
I've never been one for oranized religion. It just never sat right with me, sitting there having some dude in a funny robe telling me what's what and what I should think about thinking that I thought I was thinking that I thought was right or was it wrong that I thought about thinking. Say what? Oh it's Sci-Fi I got it, some dude came from space and now what? So it's about UFO's and spacemen that's cool. Just not for me.
Anyway way Hello fellow dudes.
Welcome to the bowling alley, Father Bill. Hope you enjoy the rugs, have a few drinks, and have fun!
Welcome to our beach community, FatherBill; bars over there.
Welcome Father Bill, I'd love to see some of your paintings man. Maybe when you get some time you can post one or two and let us dudes take a look. I'm glad you found your zen place in painting, it's all about doing what we love man.
Hi Dudes! It's a pleasure to be with you!
Hey guys. I'm the newest ordained priest of Dudeism, RevHARD. That's Reverend H.A.R.D. (Humble Adpolymathic Renaissance Dude) *trademark.
I like motorcycles, acronyms and polysemes. My username really ties them all together, man.
Actually found this place while brainstorming ideas for a book. The seed is now planted. Hopefully it grows into something worth smoking.
Nice to find a community of like-minded dudes.
Taking a deep breath and weighing my options. 2 cubes are too many....
Whats up?
8) Hello Dudes!
My name is River and I have been out of the Dudeist "church" for way too long! But now I am back and planning on being a more active member. Of course, I use the liberal definition of the word active. I wouldn't want to do anything that would stress myself out too much.
Hello Dudes and Dudettes!
I’m from Australia & I’ve been a fan of The Big Lebowski for years but have only recently taken the plunge into Dudeism. I still got a fair bit to learn & discover but that’s all part of the fun. A journey to hopefully a better life of reduced stress & enjoying the little things. Just thought I would introduce myself here and I look forward to shooting the breeze with you dudes in the future 8)

Welcome aboard, dude.

Well... it's a legal church in that sense, if that's what you mean. Based on your spelling "recognised" I'm guessing British or Australian. You'll have to check your local laws to see how it affects you in case you want to do something like officiate a wedding, etc.
If that's not what you mean, feel free to ask!
Literally just registered, I've been ordained just a few months but have been studying for a decade, I'm sure you'll see me pop in from time to time. Lemme read first 8) feel free to contact

Hi,
Nice to have you here at the new Dudeism.com forum, a place for practicing dudeists to meet and compare notes. If you have any suggestions, please find the contact email at www.dudeism.com/contact.html.
Take er easy,
The Forum Dude
Thanks for the welcome Dudes. I was ordained on the 5th August 2020. This is the first forum I have been on, and being a bit of an old dinosaur I am not sure I'm doing it right. Time will tell.
Coming up on ten years of being an ordained member of the church in December, so I figured it was time to introduce myself. Just a little procrastination. What's good, everybody?
I hope everyone is doing well with everything that's been going on in the world. Stay strong and abide.
Hello, Dudes!
I was going about my day when new shit came to light and I found out about this forum.
Glad to be here, man, the forum really ties us all together.
Have a good day, enjoy a beverage and don't worry about shit, life goes on... 8)
You are welcome Forum Dude! Let me introduce myself, My internet name is Pelly. I was cruising the internet, seeing how I can become an ordained online minister, I wanted a free way because best things in life are free plus I'm not a christian. I've been a Taoist for 20 years and I felt it was wrong to pay money to a church to be an ordained minister, and then I landed on this place.
I've heard of Dudeism and how it "ties the room together" but I had no idea that Dudeism was a real institution that allows people to become priest and be ordained. My love of Taoism can now be official in the eyes of the western world. Now that I ordained myself as a Dudeist Priest, I can move forward in my life knowing I can marry people and spread love into this world, how tao and dude is that? I'm in!
Welcome, fellow achievers!
Is that a Marmot in your tub, or are you just happy to see me? 8)
Is this thing on? Wondering if anyone still simply wants to "abide" and "take 'er easy?"
Welcome, new achievers!
Hey dudes 😎
Greetings programs!! Nice shop you got set up here man. Thank you for allowing me into this humble abode.
My dudes, I'm a chill dude in search of like-minded dudes to help get the word out about Dudeism. I'm a 27yo college student and being forced to do an ethnographic study about the literacies of any particular online community, since schoolwork totally sucks usually, I decided to do my study over something that can spread positivity out into the world man. I've always loved the movie that started it all but after exploring Dudeism I've already committed to becoming a member and getting ordained after this semester. It just really speaks to my inner dude and I think being a dudeist can prepare and help you through anything this big ole sumbitch called life tries to throw at ya.
I'm looking for dudes to take part in my study as research participants, it won't be super time-consuming or anything, I'll just ask you some questions about Dudeism and how it's affected, changed, or impacted your life, etc. Also if it's cool with you I'd ask some general questions about yourself or your life but nothing intense or intruding man, just stuff for the study. I can share more about myself or the study upon requests, just hit ya boi up y'all. In his name, we abide.
Feel free to message on here or shoot your dude an email. willrules072493@gmail.com

Hi All thanks for having me ;D
Hi Dudes! It's a pleasure to be with you!
Aso i recommend you buy twitter followers (https://viplikes.net/buy-twitter-followers) to increase their ammount.
Cause if you have just created your Twitter account, you will face the fact that in order for posts to be included in the recommendations, you need to have a lot of followers. And this services perfectly helps to cope with these tasks!
Hey everyone, its HP Black Mamba from T4S ministries. I am a Satanist, visiting out of curiosity. I look forward to talking to you and having fun conversations.
It don't matter to the Jesus!
I'm pretty damn old, even older than the Dude, and from the looks of things, I've been living the life since I can remember.
Although in these latter days of life, I keep finding myself a little outraged at politics, a not good place for the soul.
Sup fellow Dudes?! Just joined the forums after ordaining a few days ago. Happy to be amongst like minded people.
Hey Johnny!
I stumbled in here while searching for the roots of Karl Hungus. Far out
Well, I never realised this forum existed and I've been an ordained priest for 5-years. Nice to meet you all.
