Hey, dudes. Newly ordained priest here and first forum post.

Decided to stay off the oat sodas-and the Caucasians-this month, as my overindulgence in them was beginning to have a negative impact-in fact, to be totally frank it was turning into a bit of an issue and, without realising it, I was kind of hooked. Very unchill.

I was worried when I gave it up that it would be harder to remain dude-after all, in practically every scene in the holy source material, our Dude is enjoying some sort of substance, whether it be a White Russian or a good old jay. However, surprisingly, since giving it up I have found it much easier to abide-feeling more chill, sleeping better, and so on. When February hits I hope I will be able to form a more positive relationship with the good stuff, and enjoy it without overindulging. No one wants to bowl with a lush, after all.

What are your thoughts? Is it possible to remain dude without partaking in mind altering substances? I used to smoke quite a bit of bud as well, among other things, but my special lady really hates that stuff so have chosen love over drugs-keeping the lady sweet, after all, is the best way to take 'er easy.

Anyway, it's good to be here!

Dude is a state of mind, not an ingestible substance.  If it were that easy, everyone who smokes and drinks would be enlightened.
It ultimately boils down to the individual and you should do what works for you.  Partaking isn't a necessity.  I would think that continuing use when it has a negative impact would be very un-Dude.

Good move!
IMO alcohol is the most harmful drug there is.
Moderation is advisable but tricky.
Ive generally decided that I simply can't drink hard liquor because it renders sound decisions unlikely.
Today I indulge in the barley pop occasionally.

My thoughts exactly-feeling like there is a "correct" way to be dude also seems counter to the dude way.

I might do the same. My gut is getting a little out of control.

I personally see my gut as a badge of office amongst fellow drinkers (though the type 2 diabetes is probably from the same source).
