Hello,
I'm currently writing a Research Paper for a part of my Bachelor Degree!
I'm currently writing about fandom and have chosen The Big Lebowski as my case study. I'm reaching out to the community here as one of my questions is related to a case study and I can't get an answer from my textual analysis, so if anyone feel that they can help please write below!

Are there any Dudeists who abide the religion but have yet to see the film?
Do you abide the religion itself because it's your religion, or are you involved because you're a fan of the film?
Are there anyone hanging around the online community here for social interaction related to the film but don't believe in Dudeism?

I hope nobody finds any of my questions offending as this is not my intentions in any way and I'm mainly focusing on fandom and not the religion itself. I hope that through this Research Paper I might be able to enlighten, if only a few, people about Dudeism, and if not at least the greatness that is The Big Lebowski!

Best Regards
Rich

I would answer one of queries as:
Dudeism is a state of being, not a belief.

Quiet simply, for myself, I studied Yoga as an early teenager. Through his use of Yoga terminology I was able to read Christmas Humphreys books about Zen Buddhism. I branched from Zen to Taoism through Alan Watts. After a number of years studying and practicing Zen and Taoism as a westerner it occurred to me that I was having to learn a lot of Chinese and Japanese society and history in order to further understand and practice the "religions". It's about this time I turned to look for a more native (to my own history) form of spirituality, and started looking into Paganism (of a Celtic variety). I never really set aside the Zen/Taoist point of view. I seriously considered entering a Buddhist monastery at one time. But decided to remain at large in the outside world believing it was more relevant to practice in society.

I have always been of a very laid back point of view (family friends still call me Dylan, after the rabbit in the magic roundabout).

I am also a big film fan (used to call us film buffs), following a number of directors and film styles, including the Coen Brothers.

Imagine my interest when I heard there was this bloke who similarly had studied Zen and Taoism (only properly in the orient) and had linked the attitude with one of the Coen Brothers films The Big Lebowski that he was calling Dudeism.

So I joined.

Others will disagree, but dudeism is a mock religion, much like the Flying Spaghetti Monster.  It is indeed a modern day take on Taoism, but see it for for what it's worth.

Except that the Flying Spaghetti Monster religion does not have a dude who shouts VAGINA, and speaks of the virtues of drinking beer. 8) So piss on them!!! ;D

Mock religion?
No longer my compeers (it has been a while). At least not in Poland.

And to answer the question, I definitely saw the movie and enjoyed it repeatedly before ordaining myself on a lark. It is an ongoing, wonderful lark though, that just feels good.
Dude or Dude not. There is no should.
