You guys are gonna make me cry, man. I'm 37 and had abandoned all hope, thinking my generation and those ten years younger/older had well and truly fucked the world. So much emphasis on work, productivity, activity for the sake of being active, all that. This blossoming of dudeism among the fragrant flowers of our youth, it...uh...well, it's like the man said, I can dig it.

By the way, for those of you still in school, revel each time you get a report card comment saying you're "not working to potential." What a dreary, grey, workaday world it would be if everyone reached their potential before hitting 18. It's like Dean Martin said, "I feel bad for people who don't drink: when they wake up, that's the best they're gonna feel all day."

Man I wish I knew all you guys in real life. It feels like there's nobody I know that just wants to hang out for the sake of hanging out, listen to some tunes, relax, all that stuff. Everyone's so focused on these other things they don't want to take part in the pure and simple pleasures in life.

Peace

Hominid

+1 Englishdude...   I hear you.  Maybe if man caves were more prevalent, we'd have more hang out time with fellow dudes.

Yeah, it would really get me down if I couldn't have a little space to call my own. I'm lucky enough to have my own space but most people seem too busy to come hang out.

I'm 19 at the moment. Mississippi is pretty laid back, but there are quite a few assholes around (as there are with every corner of the world).

Anyway, I must say the problem of over-ambition seems to be what causes so much stress in young people, considering the world we've been born into.

Also, for those younger Dudes still in high school: if you decide to go to college, when it comes to meeting new people don't judge a book by its cover. I have so many Dude-like friends who you would expect to be uptight. Always be open to the possibilities.

Where are you in Britain English dude?
Love is like a butterfly it goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes. :)

Fayetta

I'm 23 dude and I know exactly where your coming from. People my age seem so uptight where as I just want to mellow out, it can be so hard with all the pressures.

DudeFairy

Kickin' back in Australia with all my other Dudes!

22 here dudes. British also. Been ordained since I was 18 or 19 I can't remember now...
I know realistically I can't live like the dude as he does all the time. Ya know, work and what not. But hell, what I want the most and what I struggle with is to just be mellow and relax in all situations. I'm very undude most of the time, work gets me stressed and I don't have much of a sleeping pattern so I'm tired a lot and can't sleep till past midnight, I work in a cinema for now but damn, it's stressful, shit dudes, a lot of the time I want to unleash my inner Walter and nihilist. I get a day a week where I let everything go. I crash round my dads place and just relax, watch films, drink a beer if it's available, that's my "Fuck it dude, let's go bowling" that or long walks, ignoring what's going on whilst I listen to some music.

Dudes I was moved to say we need not sweat it if we feel surrounded by the rat race a little bit while we are/were young.  Even the dude had his activist days which were probably far out but also a little bit over the line as far as abiding goes, and he must of put some energy into that metallica gig... bunch of assholes.  I'm 31 and I been trying to toe the line, but I've gone over a few times because I wanted to stay in the round robin...  I guess my point is those experiences teach you how to abide later on...  so I guess abide all the not abiding...  Somebody's gotta make the milk for us to drink while we amble around the grocery store and everybody's gotta feed the monkey. ... Just my opinion man.

25 here, Russian dude living in London. I dig your thoughts Elando. I am also finding it harder to meet fellow dudes who don't consider achieving as a mission in life to chill out with. I've started to part with many of my old compadres over the years as they became way too focused on achieving, peeing on other's people rugs to get the money and just partying for the sake of it. It's like consulting and banking are the only two careers that exist to them. I think the internet and little beach communities like this one are a great way to meet dudes though. If any of you guys are in London by the way and fancy grabbing an oat soda one of these days, feel free to send me a message!

22, posting from Texas. People get a little stressed over little things and tend to be a tad over dramatic 'round here.

25 from Germany... I am kinda glad to say that I have a lot of friends who also adapt the Dudeist lifestyle :) But I know a lot of people my age who are really uptight nonetheless. Maybe they got emotional problems, man. Beyond pacifism.
