Rev. Iconocclesiastes

This week's verse comes from the Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 23, verse 1.

Before somebody cries foul, I want to assert that this verse comes not from the Christian Bible, but from the Torah, which predates the Christian Scriptures by at least a couple of thousand years or so.  Here it is:

"No man whose testicles have been crushed or whose penis has been cut off may participate in the assembly of the LORD."  (Deut. 23:1, NIV)

In other words: back in the olden times in Israel, a man who'd had his johnson and/or testicles cut off was not allowed to go to the Temple.

It is about 1200 to 1300 years prior but not all of it.
Also that command was for sons of Aaron who took care of the temple stuff. It did extend to other people in that was seen as wrong to be hurting man's Johnson.

What is your point for this?

Rev. Iconocclesiastes

My point is, that this is my verse from a sacred text (other than the Bible) of the week.  Also, that cutting off another man's johnson is never cool, regardless of social/historical context.

Maybe I'm over the line on this but again what in gods name are you blathering about?. I don't see what this has to do with duideism. Is there a question some comparing reference?.  What are you trying to discuss here?. Or are you just trying to find a way to preach at us?.

Shagbeard

Lets just settle this once and for all! Is Dudeism by way of this forum anti-god, anti-christian, etc and for the most part atheist based? Is the concept of a Greater power absolutely forbidden and will always be spit upon in here? Settle it, draw a line in the sand and define it once and for ALL.

So Icon can know. So I can know. So anyone can know.

Sick of this, does not explain my position and really need to know if I will get a rug elsewhere. For one the whole constant bashing of ones faith is undude, but of course that is just my opinion. The seeing one says they been treated badly from some christians does not mean all are that way nor does it mean that is what is exceptable. To keep seeing such hateful things every other post is making me believe that Dudeism here on this forum is undude. If any been wronged, another wrong does not make it right... That is what parents teach us growing up, and they are not worng on that.

Settle this now! Line drawn. Define it and put it in the rules or mark it zero that this bashing must not stand!!!!

Whoa I did not post that as hateful nor was it anti Christian. If it came across that way I apologize. I don't think dudeism has anything for or against any other religion. My question was what is the point of the post is it a question a comparative or an interesting fact?. What is being discussed here that is my question?. Or is he preaching something?.  That's where I'm coming from.

The_Sleevez

I mean take religion out of it. Say I came on here and posted a quote and said this is from this movie it means this and that's all I post . People are going to wonder what in gods name am I blathering about?. What is the point of the post what is being disscussed?. Or am I just saying hey look at me I watched this movie. Which is fine a bit odd maybe but I'm curious what the point is.

Shagbeard

No Sleevez, this is in general clear across the whole of it all.
The reason for the post of Icon is obvious... that old Judaism saw the cutting off of a man's johnson is undude. But in general making such a post ALWAYS gets reactionary shit

It's like watching I Love Lucy, Sleevez: if you don't like it, then don't view it.  Up to you.

Thanks for having my back, Shagbeard.  What you write is the truth.

I just asked what the point of the post was now that you have said it understand.

Torah is bible

True, Torah is Bible.  However, not all Bible is Torah.  There is a big difference between the two.

To whom it may concern: my name is not Thinkingdude, and I am not here to start any shit.  So please: if some of you simply do not like Christians and Christianity, then just man up and say so.  It does not offend me, and I do not take it personally.  Just be honest about it.  I'm not trying to scam anybody here.

No sweat, Sleevez.  Now do you see my point?
