Just thought I'd start out by saying, I was a dude before even viewing the holy media of TBL. However, TBL is what brought me here to you few like minded dudes I thought were lost to the world.

I am a reletively young dude, nearly in my 20th year of abiding the world and it's crazyness, and I thought I'd start by asked, where are all the young dudes?

Abiding is hard when you were born too late to have brother and sisterly dudes around you who share the ethos of abiding and takin' 'er easy instead of just diving head long into the rat race and giving in to agression like it's freakin' Nam in any situation. When music of the gods like Creedence, The Doors, The Who and Hendrix are regarded as irrelivant and instead rap and dupstep is the norm, promoting hate and negative vibes instead of peace and love, what can you do?

In England especially, the dudely dream seems dead where ever I turn. I've been living the life of the dude as best I can for these past years but I'm finding it harder and harder each day to continue without being more undude by the day. Being a recent college grad in Media it's made me more cynical, discovering the truth behind the lies of the media and having to work with uptight nihilist actors has made it increasingly hard to stay dude when I know the world is so crazy. Having friends who are usually too occupied with pushing for that new flashy phone, designer label or drinking for the sake of getting pissed out their minds, not slowing down to take a step back is rubbing off on me. Few in my age range seem to understand the concepts of Dudeism in this manic age.

So what's a dude to do when he's losing his way, can't find any other dudely dudes for support and is at the end of his rag with the corperate bullshit, fakery and shit that is so hard to abide everyday? What would you dudes do? How do you abide each day knowing the majority of the world is pissing on each others rugs? Theres only so many times I can just say "Fuck it" and go mellow out.  :-\

Fuck man, I hear your pain. I really do. You're observation that we're mostly older dudes (on this forum anyways) is true. The dudes that go to Lebowskifests are mostly thirty-somethings. You have discovered a sub-culture of philosophers that align with your ethos. An ethos that most people your age don't have a fucking clue about.

I tip my hat to you, you young fuck who has the gonads to question the status quo. It took me decades to get to where you are. Good on ya dude.

Hey, hang out with us, grab an oat soda.  The bar's just over there...

Fuckin' A, man...

I'm 20, Dude! And as I said in my very first post on this forum, I was a Dudely fellow long before I ever saw TBL, or even knew what Dudeism was. I joined the Church of the Latter Day Dude shortly after discovering there were so many people who saw the world in a similar manner as myself. I didn't view TBL until maybe a month or two after joining, but I was pleased with my decision to watch it (funny shit, mang).

I recently became a Dudeist Priest, I was ordained on the 30th of September. And I too, weep for knowing that I was born way too late to experience the Golden Age of rock and roll. I was raised on the Beatles, Dude. I look at my generation and shake my head. MTV isn't even a shadow of it's former 80s glory. All the popular music sucks. It can be hard to abide under such harsh conditions of nation-wide undudelyness. I feel your pain, Dude. Have a couple oat sodas and chill with us. For I, like you, am just trying to keep abiding amongst a generation that I rarely see eye-to-eye with. Long live the rebel-shrug.

    Keep abiding, Dudes.
Abiding in a black hoodie.

Yeah dude I feel your pain too...I'm too old to get this generation...fuckin' hate rap with a passion.
All I can tell you dude is hang in there and try to find other dudes like yourself and start a new dude revolution mang. Become the change you wish to see...become the dude for his place and time.
Welcome home dude...welcome to our nice quiet beach community. 8)

"All the young dudes!" Sorry, was thinking of the song written by David Bowie. Hey Elando, welcome to our rugstore; grab an oat soda, pass around the Ganja and abide, dude. Good to have you in our beloved beach community.

A.B. Dude

I guess I'm kinda young, clocking at 25 here. I love my Creedence, don't get me wrong, but I dig the reggae and the old rap (like Biggie and old Snoop) back when it was about just trying to live instead of singing about hos and cars and cash money. Now it all seems a little silly, but I'll still bob my head to something if I feel it resonates with me (for example Lupe Fiasco has an older style of hip hop).

Then again, I grew up in a violent area and spent most of my childhood listening to stuff like that, as well as Creedence, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and all kinds of other shit--I always have been cool with all kinds of different music.

I'll tell ya though, it's hard being a female and young Dude in today's world--no one takes you seriously if you don't like to wear makeup, do your hair up fancy, and dress in tight clothes. I'm a baggy clothes and bathrobe type of person.

Welcome to the other young Dudes here abidin' with us today. May you experience more strikes than gutters. :)

Tryin' to abide in a non-abiding world.

Elando

Thanks alot Dudes, definately good to know theres more of us around than I thought.

@DigitalBuddah, yeah I thought I'd use that little pun in there, gotta love a bit of Bowie. :)

@A.B. Dude, Don't get me wrong, I can usually abide most music, old rap and especially some rightous reggae beats from the classics like Bob Marley and great, it's just the modern "YO IMMA GET SUM BITCHES AN' MONEY!" shit that means nothing but the next paycheck for artists that have forgotten their roots.

Gonna try and find some like minded, laid back kind of people, most probably out of my age group but hey, what you gonna do? Might join some Tai Chi thing to help build my calm.

Take er' easy, dudes.  8)

Hello there, I'm 22 and live the dude's lifestyle for quite some time now.

As I recall, I had always problems fitting in and started pretty soon to see the world like an stereotypical old grumpy man talking about the "good old times".

I started to attend university one year ago and was looking forward to meeting more "alternative" people I can relate to, but I found out that they are just as closed minded as everybody else. They just have a different opinion.

Kudos to all the young dudes. Given the general features of those under 30 in the modern world, and many others older than that, the fact that you think differently from the rest of the bunch really takes you apart from them.

Being raised in the TV era and being still able to be free thinkers is simply fabulous.

Again, kudos and welcome to our beach community.  8)
IMDO: Always In My Dudely Opinion, dude. And, dude, let's not forget that sometimes I'm a f***ing moron.

Elando, you're speaking from my young Dude's heart. I've been finding myself in your situation a lot, lately. Many people try to live this complicated life as uncomplicated as possible, by fitting the norm! Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man is a great way of turning away from stress and living by the golden rule: fuck it... But, eventually you'll see that you alienate yourself from your friends. We Dudes are great, but not Gods. Ever thought about inviting some buddies over for a round of TBL?! Works wonders, I tell you. I like to introduce my good friend Mary Jane to these rounds too, but that's personal preference. Still, every now and then I feel overwhelmed by all the bullshit around me and that's when I go camping, yes completely random I know. All alone: a Dude, nature and a tent, most likely a rug too. What else do you need? Good way to regain strength!

Just read a highly dudesome article that proves young Dudes are not a dying breed. In any case it's German, so here's my translation:

"I only did 30" [km/h that is]

Bremen. "More intoxicated is not possible" - this is the conclusion two police officers of the city police came to, after they attended a very special operation.

In the "Wallanlagen" [some place in Bremen] the police officers found a 25 year-old man sleeping on his belly with his arms and legs stretched far apart on a lawn. When they woke him from his deep sleep, the young man stood up as if saluting the officers, though struggling with keeping his balance. As mentioned in the police report, "there was still a patch of grass attached to the right side of his face". That's when he commented his situation: "I only did 30. You can't stop me because I drove too slow. I always take this street and the second one left".
The man continued to surprise the officers even more. After he was asked to show his ID and offered his driving license [it's different in Germany]. "My driving instructor even awarded me for driving 30. Can I go home now, please? I want to go home!"
Next he took of and sat down in the back of the police car, buckling up and waiting. After the officers came back to their senses they drove the man home, all the way to his front door. And that's when he said "See you next Sunday, Dudes".
