Does anybody have Dudeist Routines?

INB4 "that sounds exhausting."

Now that that's out of the way, do you Dudes have any daily practices to cultivate a Dude nature or perhaps get yourself centered? I have been digging the Taoist breathing from the Dudespaper. Downloaded an old video on Beginning Tai Chi. Swiss fucking watch man. Going to combine the two with my daily prayers. Figure it should go a long way to setting each day right.

So how about you Dudes?

I slack off a lot; anything beyond that sounds exhausting. ;D

Haha. Made me laugh you begin with INB4 that sounds exhausting... Seems like a lot of earnest conversations get deflected with that, or fuck it let's go bowling... (I'm guessing it's either an analog of a modern day zen master trying to impart a no mind attitude, or the response in a can for outside someone's comfort zone - just my opinion).

Really, I think it's like Great Dude Keb' Mo said "There's more than one way home. Ain't no right way, ain't no wrong".

(For reference, I've been a Taoist for about 20 years, a dudeist about a month, and they seem close enough to be the same as far as I'm concerned- again just my opinion).

18 or 19 years or ago I was practicing mediation a few days a week. I found it balancing, and a perfect way for me to feel more in touch with the Universe. A couple years after that, I injured my back and that kind of thing was off the table for me; I couldn't calm my mind or disconnect from the pain. That doesn't sound very Dude, but that's the way it was.

I've experimented with Tai Chi here and there over the years (I would consider myself at whatever the level is that's right before "beginner"). Similar problem there, on bad back days, the range of motions are literally impossible.

Gradually I've returned to meditation on "good" days, when I feel it. I guess when there's that need to reset; pick up some crap so you can truly put it down. It's more prana tradition (my resources were limited when I began, and those were the materials I had available to me, so that's what I practiced). Again, there's more than one way home, ya know? Most days I just try to abide. Editing knee jerk reactions, or at the very least examining them as they come along.

I am glad you pointed out the breathing exercises, I played a bit with them after reading The Abide Guide, I've been trying em out, testing to see if they are a good fit for me. They don't seem wrong, so far, so it's forward (and just for the record? Not at all exhausting ;) )

Some dudes are going to take er easy from an all natural, no editing point of abiding. Some of us are going to try breathing, or tai chi, or jays, or Caucasians. It's whatever works for each of us. These kind of threads to maybe give someone else an idea what might work for them (if they are looking, either actively or not knowing it til they step it in) seem less exhausting and more "Some new shit has come to light" to me. Again, that's just like, my opinion, man.
Abide.

The Dude does not confront difficulty, and so has none.

Routines?  Oh, the usual.  Bowl.  Drive around.  The occasional acid flashback.   8)

But seriously, no, not really.  Life on it's own can become pretty routine and make you feel like you're stuck in the proverbial rut, so I don't feel the need to add to that by self-applying some sort of daily ritual.  I just do the best I can to be more Dude than Walter but, admittedly, I often find myself somewhere in between.  *shrug*  Life goes on, man.
I don't go to church on Sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray
Don't memorize the books of the Bible
I got my own special way

Reverend Bizarre

I tried meditation but couldn't really get into it.

I don't really have any Dudeist routines, per se. I just slack off regularly and that does the job.

I wouldn't say I exactly have a routine. Not in any kind of rigid progression of things to do over a set period. I try to go with what the day requires. Some days demand that you get the fuck out there and engage them with speed. Other days lend themselves to luxurious home-cooked breakfasts, a little ganja and general lazing about.

I suppose music is my only routine really. I listen to a lot of it and I usually like to pop the headphones on when I get up and mooch about in search of caffeine/nicotine/sausages/ganja as the day demands. Actually one of my go-to morning playlists starts with "Tumbling Tumbleweeds". With some good tunes I can usually find my centre pretty quickly.

I meditate, sometimes. Other times I don't. I know I can, and I used to be quite rigid about my fucking schedule but it doesn't always feel like something I need. I always remember the techniques for times when I'm feeling less than mellow, but if everything's fine and abiding I don't really feel the need.

I take the time to appreciate the little things, like the seriously little things (water fountains, carpets, cardboard boxes, etc.). It's amazing to think that there was a point in time where these things didn't exist, and someone had to invent  them, and I am lucky enough to live in a time and a place where these things are commonplace.

Ynot Dude

Surf, slack, sip and smoke. Not necessarily in that order, but whatever.

Mark it eight, Dudes.  A lot of people spend so much time looking for the "big things" in life that they fail to realize life is mostly not much more than a continuous series of small moments.  Learn to appreciate those small moments more, and you'll enjoy life more.

I try to go back to the basics which is breathing. I couple it with 2 question Why? and What? every time I get an answer that is unacceptable to me I ask the questions over again to myself and to google by the end all is usually calm, and if I still can't find any resolution then I say F$ck it side step and move on. If the problem returns I repeat the process until I have the answer I need to resolve it whether the answer is acceptance or resolution of the situation. I also find little adages like  "Even your darkest hour only last 60 minutes." helps me to de-stress.
