I almost joined the UUs a couple months back, but they felt a bit to hung up on themselves for my tastes, at least at my local UU church. So needless to say I found it a bit lacking and a bit undude.

I began attending a UU church about a year ago and have been finding it a good fit for me. It seems to catch the sendoffs who don't really fit in elsewhere (atheists, agnostics, LGBT, etc.). I find it a very Dudely experience as it celebrates beautiful tradition while keeping one's mind limber.

UU looks interesting in general but (together with Quakers) it's this 'private flat meetings' thing where I live. A bit too formal to practice it on my own, a bit too informal to create a bigger community.

In a unitary state, power is fully vested in the national government and flows downwards to the local governments. The national government can fully control the local ones.

In a federal state, power is vested in the local (or state) governments and those governments give some power up to the national government. The national government cannot control the local governments beyond what they have agreed to allow it to do.
