I used to be a communist. Hell, I still am. Yes, I know communism will never work, but at least it's an ethos! Marx and Lenin were alright, but Stalin and the lot were fuckin' amateurs. Communism at its purest is one of the greatest ideas ever, am I right?

I don not care to be governed. I think a bunch of people that aren't governed and all do something that supports the common good, or at the very least does no harm well that's pretty much communism isn't it?
Abide, always Abide.

Exactly, communism is all about the people working together, sharing everything and not being governed. The problem is that there is always a fuckin' power-hungry fascist around to screw everything up and fuck strangers in the ass. The old Soviet Union is a good example of what happens when you fuck strangers in the ass! The fuckin' North Korea happens!
I'm gonna slow down now, this ranting is un-dude.

BOOOY this can get people fired up.......... that is a good thing though we need to a least talk about the world around us ..... even though we are most likely unable to change this evil bullshit world we live in due to the powers that be (unlike the old day's when we coulda kicked some ass) ..... I wanna kick there ass I do .... I do...... I do ........  I always say the one most important thing missing in the world today is BALANCE and it will never arrive ..... because of religion and greed .......

Communism without corruption and capitalism with philanphropy.
Both would work so very well... if such things truly existed!

Alas, we're stuck with the broken versions... :(

Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff.

- Frank Zappa

Communism is like one big phone company.

- Lenny Bruce

Communism, like any other revealed religion, is largely made up of prophecies.

- H. L. Mencken

I don't like Communism because it hands out wealth through rationing books.

- Omar Torrijos Herrera

A common danger tends to concord. Communism is the exploitation of the strong by the weak. In Communism, inequality comes from placing mediocrity on a level with excellence.

- Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

On the other hand ...... if you are doing buisness with a capitalist should you worry about him trying to capitalise on you?   ...... bet your bottom dollar ..... if he leaves you one that is.

True enough, capitalism certainly is not perfect. Just the best option for the foreseeable future as far as I can tell.

Rev. Ed C

You know, I've always found that because Capitalism encourages greed and there's not enough philanthropy at the top, leaving the bottom stiffed, I can't be down with it.  And likewise, there's too much room for corruption at the top of Communism, leaving the people at the bottom stiffed again.

So, I prefer the mellow mix of a centrist socialist society.  People can built themselves up to the top and then the people in the middle make sure the top dogs help out the people at the bottom.

Sadly, the problem with our British model of socialism still leaves a lot of a massive gap between rich and poor because we still embrace the capitalist model where it's the rich who are in power and block moves to have their excess wealth handed out to the needy.  Sadly, no one's adopted what I would consider the ideal:

A semi-capitalist, centrist socialist society.  We need more Dude in our politics to iron out the ugly wrinkles in our greedy rich and toothless politicians, worldwide.  Apart from the communist countries, where we need to blunt the teeth of the politicians and iron out THIER greed!

Y'know, this might be a more complex case...

Democratic socialism, and Shcumacher economics(Buddhist economics, but even Buddhists think that is not a good name for it).

We want to evolve into a Type I civilization, ya know Star Trek, there are models that can get us there. The civilization that is the Star Trek model is a social democracy, with gross national happiness as the economic system. It takes a shift in how we view personal property(ownership) and a shift in I idea of sovereignty. A key to this is also getting the rest of the world on board with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. If all countries observed these basic rights, borders would become arbitrary, just lines in the sand.

I do like the Star Trek model, now that you mention it.  Earth as one unified nation, no more wars, tribalism, racism etc.

It's one of the saddest things about the curreny destabalisation of the EU at the moment.  If the EU can hold on in there and the country lines can blur a bit... Alas, soon Scotland might hold a referrendum on suceeding from the UK, which is just shattering us even further into seperatist states.  Euro-bummer, man :(
