I know the question of ritual comes up a lot on this site so can i suggest you look at this:

Re: Dudeist baptisms?

Which is both DB and my own opinions on the subject of ritual.

True, been concerned about the establishing of "dudeism rituals." A Zen master once said "you stink of zen" to one of his students. Will people who live the life of a dude become rigid and rule oriented ending up "stinking of dudeism?" Mindless ritual, man, I try to avoid it.

Personally, IMHO, it would be better to pursue a dudeism style celebration and not ritual.

Examples; zesty coitus, oat sodas and burgers, bowling, finding ways to enjoy 20 grand, man, hanging out with your lady friend, listening to the semis on your iPod, burning a J, driving around listening to creedence tapes, stopping by a Jackie Treehorn party, coffee at your local family restaurant, occupying various administration buildings.....the list is endless.

I say no to ritual and yes to celebrating life as a dude.

That's just like my opinion, man.

I like the "rules" we have at Do No Harm. We do not have any. We let you decide for yourself how best to do no harm.
In much the same way, dudes will pretty much just do what they want to do.
They will abide as best they can abide in their own way.

It sounds like the basic philosophy of "Do no harm" is to abide.

Well, for me it is. I cannot speak for anyone else.
But yeah, when I found Dudeism I thoought it would fit right in there with do no harm.
I mean, like to abide is to do no harm, and to do no harm is to like abide.

That's cool, man. Far fucking out. The do no harmers; good to know they're out there takin' er easy for all us sinners.

The world would be a more dude like place if every dude just treated others like they would want to be treated. Those should be the fucking rules.

There is nothing wrong with rituals in and of themselves. We all engage in our own little, unintentional, rituals daily. The problem arises when they are set in stone as a requirement, when really, in my mind, the only true rituals of value to Dudeism is the practice of relaxation and deep thought, or even on occasion the reverse, that is, a lack of thought.

Abide.
Synonyms: observe, act in accordance with, accept, respect, endure, tolerate, bear, continue, remain, persist, stay
Archaic: Live
