If you add up the ACSII value of all the characters in the script for the movie, you get the price of a carton of milk!

For such a fun, lighthearted movie and what I believe is a great religion, some of the stuff posted on this board gives me migraines.

Icon didn't appear to be bright enough to know how to change his IP address, so the mods will have to tell us if he's returned from the dead - just in time for easter!

If you put a big map of SoCal on your wall, and map the location of every Ralphs using pushpins and twine, you'll have a 3D twine art diagram of a vagina!

Now then children make sure you have a responsible adult present when you try this at home!

Most Honorable Dudes,

What I most appreciate about the Dude is his infinite patience. To Martin. Even to Walter! So, maybe I am just going through my cycles. Why is that so upsetting?

Whoever this Iconocclesiates is, it appears you had your rift with him the first part of this year.  If anyone had checked, I first posted on July 3rd, 2013, titled

Thank you for asking, Administrator Dude.

I believe I do have a perspective that is worth a sharing, a perspective that may contribute towards "recognizing the philosophical-religious traditions that predate and inform Dudeism."

Where did the Dude come from?  After Shamusin' till I dream Lebowski, I have a highly plausible answer. The Latter Day Dude echoes the Earlier Day John of the Gospel of John. Bunny echos the Hare in Hare-Mark on the Moon. I believe these stories spin around each other (yin yang fashion) such to sponsor an even deeper level of meaning. A quite grand meaning to which the Dude might exclaim, "Fuckin' A!"

For the first time in the movie, the Dude sports a real bowling shirt (monogrammed "Art"). CHAPTERS 21 OF BOTH WORKS OF ART echo each other. Jesus admonishes Peter (Lebowski-like), LEAVE THE DUDE THE FUCK ALONE! And the word used is ABIDE (JOHN 21:23, Darby Translation).

And "Art" traces back to the Greek word artios which translates "complete or suitable." The way the Stranger states it, "He fits right in there." This examples just one of the many logged (in Dudism.com) triangulated codes used by the Coen Brothers. And all of those codes respective to the Dude, Donny, Walter, The Stoners, Maude, and Knox Harrington, (who did I leave out?) lead to the Gospel of John.

New information has come to light, Administrator Dude. And I can't imagine a more appropriate place for it shine than this little corner of Dudeism.com.

Now a Righteous Dude might say of me, "LET HIM LEAVE THE DUDE THE FUCK ALONE." I would respectfully say to that Dude, "Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like your opinion, man."

Respectfully, a very sincere Brother Shamus.

I'm out of my element here. I feel like a child who's wandered into the middle of a movie.
What the fuck are you talking about?

Not a good answer "dude". Dudeism is non-religious.

Art comes from Latin ars, artis. The core meaning in Latin is practical skill (compare with English art, artful in the sense of cunning). In Latin the word also means professional skill and was applied increasingly to skill in creating poetry and music. In the course of time it was also applied more specifically to painting and sculpture.

Well there are to many ins and outs and what have you's here for this dude. It's this isn't an icon post not entirely sure what he's blathering about. Possibly looking for a deeper meaning in the movie and relating it to Christianity which seems like an acid flash back to me. I don't think He is scamming anybody or pissing on the rug. Nothing is fucked here just expressing his opinion and that's cool man. Just abiding

Dude, you are keeping me on my toes!

The etymological codes used by the Coen Brothers must cohere around a family of familiarities. That's what makes them so difficult to find, at first.

Reference: Online Etymology Dictionary, http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=art.  There you'll find it.

Hey Dude, ever notice in the first scene of Gutter Balls the Dude is 'foreshadowed' literally and figuratively. Now that's a Koan Brother's tease (imagery of a long-dead-in-language metaphor and therefore hidden to us). Gutter Balls is a dream foreshadowing the Yin Yang stories of the Gospel of John and the Hare-Mark in the Moon. "I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high." Look at all those bowling shoes descending in size and ascending to the hare-moon. Christianity meets Buddhism, Dude.  Wu Wei pissed on that thar rug. I'm just sayin' . . .

Foreshadowing

Definition: The literary device foreshadowing refers to the use of indicative words/phrases and hints that set the stage for a story to unfold and give the reader a hint of something that is going to happen without revealing the story or spoiling the suspense. Foreshadowing is used to suggest an upcoming outcome to the story.

Example:

"He had no idea of the disastrous chain of events to follow." In this sentence, while the protagonist is clueless of further developments, the reader learns that something disastrous and problematic is about to happen to/for him.
