flashback

from The New Scientist:

"With its outsize bulbous breasts and hugely exaggerated genitalia, (You mean, Vagina?) a statuette of a woman has pushed back the history of female figurative art by 5000 years, to at least 35,000 years ago."

Is that what this is a picture of?

Wow ok, guys, you are being very un-dude. I actually have that pic and use it as  facebook profile pic. Ok, the chicken comment was funny.
But let us not forget, uh, let us not forget, Dudes, that in today's North American very psycho have-ribs-removed-to-look-skinnier media-obsessed society, us women of more ample figures think the discovery of that statue is pretty far-out.

Bring back the worshipping of the Belly-Goddess. Please.

Actually I was serious. There is a school of thought that has suggest such images where not just totem but a form of porn.

Here i do have to say that porn is only a bad thing because we are so repressed, it is elicit only because it is perscribed. Ancient greeks and romans had no such hangups, they had pictures of naked people and people doing it but because it was not frowned on the same way it was not the same issue it is today.

Greeks and Romans were far more "free". It is also true that especially with Greeks both males and females had ripped abs by themselves without surgery but with training. They hadn't the Catholic oppression with their fear of the female form. JCD liked it and those hassholes hated/hate it. Where did they all came from? The belly button?

I agree they didn't need porn as no one needs in "simpler" societies, like indios or in Africa, probably because there are less issues, less fear of the female form, and male too, and usually at 18 they are already married. Anyway given their attention to having a toned body I guess they liked seeing pictures or statues. The difference with today societies is that they trained hard to achieve. Without hormones or chemical stuff, just the old sweat.

Maybe I'm wrong.  ;D

Am I?  ;D
Yeah well, that's just, ya know, like, your opinion, man.

Also both passed most of their lives half naked so they were quite used to body forms.
Anyway, beauty varies, there are ample figures being very beautiful and skinny figures being awful. I think it has a lot to do with inner beauty, so to say. And, like in Africa, an oversized figure means being wealthy and healthy so that's why they used it.

But it can also be that the one who did it was a fucking amateur as regards carving.  ;D

Well GSM, I think the issue at hand is not so much the methods of acheiving certaing body types but the kinds of body types we as a society perpetuate as the ideal form of beauty. Whiteheart has a good point, all those little girls reading the teen magazines and whatnot are getting a pretty narrow, messed up idea of what beauty is. Personally I've always liked the saying "different strokes for different folks." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder man.

Also, I'd be careful about talking about "simpler" societies. Just cus a society has less organized political machinery or lacks a ridiculously complicated system of written laws doesn't make them any simpler. Usually they just have different complications. And those societies you're talking about could be just as messed up concerning women's rights as any Catholic or Muslim country. Monotheistic religions didn't invent this crap, they just organized it and enforced it over a larger body of people.
