So I was somewhat drunk the other night........an enlightened condition to be in........and I got to thinking. At the end of the movie a couple of dudes start banging out this funky tune about some down and outer.......

"Send me dead flowers every morning. Send me dead flower by the mail. Send me dead flowers to my wedding. And I won't forget to put roses on your grave ..."

Now what the fuck has that shit got to do with the movie, man? What the fuck are they talking about? Where is the dude in the tune? What the fuck has anything got to do with View Nam, man!?

Any dude know? You got any leads?

...................Fuck it, I'm going bowling, will check back later.........

The rest of the lyrics make it pretty durned clear:

Dead Flowers:
intro: G F C (as many times as needed)

      C                   G
Well, when you?re sitting there
        F                C
In your silk upholstered chair
C               G                   F       C
Talking to some rich folks that you know
       C                  G
Well I hope you won?t see me
      F      C
In my ragged company
    C            G          F      C
You know I could never be alone
        G                          C
Take me down little susie, take me down
G                                             C
I know you think you?re the queen of the underground
            F                          C
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
F                           C
Send me dead flowers by the mail
F                          C
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
      G                   C             F        C
And I won?t forget to put roses on your grave

Well, when you?re sitting back
In your rose pink cadillac
Making bets on kentucky derby day
I?ll be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away

Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think you?re the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I won?t forget to put roses on your grave
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

Maybe it says something about the ambiguous relationship between the Dude and Maude? ???
The whole concept abates.

Awesome with guitar chords too.
If it were easy then I would have done it.

Dime Sandra.¡¡Que ridiculo!!

I think it speaks to the dudes semper slacker lifestyle, a big fuck you to the square community,  Dude didn't want kids, he probaly didn't want a relationship with Maude obviously he was attracted to her but also wanted to still do his own thing.  Althoght dude is not a heroin addict it speak to his drug regime and volumes about his relationship to Maude in the future.  It also speaks as to Donny's lack-luster memorial. but JMOM.
If it were easy then I would have done it.

always abides

and it's a song by the rolling stones, not that version of course, but the stones are a band the dude probably listens to

BoneDaddy

Ah, but could it also say something about the dichotomy between the worlds of the Dude and Bunny Lebowski? Bunny who was actually the lynchpin of this-here story I'm about to unfold...she fled a life she perceived as equating to living death (how CAN you keep them down on the farm when they've seen Karl Hungus, indeed?) She ensconced herself in a life  that seemed to reflect wealth, security and hedonism...but it was, in reality, teneous and illusionary. From her expensive perch, the Dude would have seemed like a loser and a non-person...someone who's life would be as inconceivable to her as Moorhead, Minnesota.

However, the Dude's enlightenment, his grounding in real relationships and peace makes it more likely that it is he that will abide. Regardless of her probably derision at his life ("send dead flowers to my wedding"), it is she that will most likely leave this world tragically (I won't won't forget to put roses on your grave.)
Men of broader intellect know that there is no sharp distinction betwixt the real and the unreal

sufidude

I think the the songs a parting ode to Donny, the sweet prince, who the Good Lord took in his wisdom just as he did so many young men of his time.
Smokin' and bowlin' in the LBC...
