I can really recommend The Who's powerful yet thoughtful stuff from the late 60s & 70s. Especially things like their rock opera Tommy with Amazing Journey/Sparks, Pinball Wizard, We're Not Gonna Take It/ See Me Feel Me and their rougher live albums from Leeds and the Isle Of Wight with lesser know songs like Water and Naked Eye

Son House's Death Letter has always seemed like a wailing proto punk sonic storm to me... I'm also a fan of Keb Mo, Kokomo Arnold, Petey Wheatstraw, Leadbelly, Bonamasa.... I could go on... man pretty much everyone you can think of (old AND new, and bunches in between). I listen to everything really, but blues is my "go to" music. Going to have to give a listen to Hugh Laurie, I had no idea that dude even was a musician.
