The Dudeism Forum

I just found myself wishing there were an up-voting capability on this forum.  There are so many good posts and helpful insights that it would be nice to give kudos to at least a few without having to post replies to all and some of the threads are long since dormant.  Anyone else think this would be nice?  I know you can "like" posts via facebook but am not wanting to give facebook access to any more things than I need to.   Also, Dudes, is there a time when the forum is particularly active or engaged more so than others?  When I come here to read and post just seems like replies and new threads are kinda sporadic and very spaced out.  It would be nice if we had like a chat ability and/or if I knew of a general time of day when people were on here.  Seems like all the new posts
I make are ALL the new posts for quite awhile.  Ha!  Anways, those are just some thoughts, take 'er easy Dudes!

the board runs in cycles...sometimes very active and sometimes really slow. I like it mellow....sort of like it is now.
There is a chat/shoutbox at the bottom of the main page, but I seldom get down that far myself.
Yeah....feedback to posts and posters was always a little bit of a problem. we do not have a FaceBook type "Like" option so we do not see too much that kind of "like" feedback....and for the most part...we are all pretty much all dudes here....and therefore pretty much lazy!
Which makes almost any reply/feedback feel special.

Every once in a while we get a paraquat who just wants to kick shie up and mess with our dudeness. Best to try and ignore anything you don't like and not let it spoil the forum for you.
They are mostly just trolls and the best way to deal with a forum troll is to ignore it.
Take er easy....abide...and do Not be a dick.
If we can do that the forum will always be a nice mellow beach community for any dude who would like to pull up a rug and chill.

Yeah you'll always have the pot stirrers and troublemakers online, especially where there is any sort of discussion.  The more intelligent and passionate people are regarding a topic it seems like the more likely there are those who try to use that to ruffle feathers.  Sad but true! But I can recognize that and not get drawn in.  I've found online if you don't feed the trolls they die (or get more obnoxious and eventually banned).  Gotta feed the monkey instead.  Ha!  And about being a dick?  Wouldn't dream of it!  Totally contrary to my nature.  I just Abide as best as I can...

I agree that some kind of up-voting capability would be, in general and if used with care and moderation by qualified and competent operators, a good thing.
Another forum I frequent is also variable in terms of traffic and post frequency etc., but there's kind of an unwritten law there that says "If you got nothing to say, don't post." They could really use an up-voting thing.
If it's possible within the limits of the forum software, then by all means let us have such a capability. If the software isn't up to the job, then fuck it, we're already (figuratively and this is not a theological debate here, dudes) bowling.
