I just had to say something that has been bothering me for years now: The dude's jellies are fucking uncomfortable! Man! nothing but love and respect for the dude but those jellies are a torture to wear. Not pleasant at all. Nor am I a croc lover...  :-\  http://dudespaper.com/what-a-croc.html/ Sorry but today is my bitching day, I guess. Much respect to you if you dig, love and wear them. Moreover, what footwear do you prefer to chillax in?

Well, that's just like your opinion, man...but a valid one, dude! 8) Not everyone likes them.

Never been much of a sandal fan myself. I got a pair of Clark's loafers last time I was in Vegas got a great deal at the outlet mall. The most comfortable shoes I have ever worn like walking on clouds highly recommend them.

Dude, you don't have to wear the same outfit as the Dude to be a good dudeist. Also I'm not convinced you can define a good or a bad dudeist.

I'm going to sound  self-centered, and/or pretentious (due to my youth in dudeism), but here are my thoughts : Wear what makes you feel good, do what makes you feel good, drink what you like, be yourself, be free of mind, but try not to interferes in other people's choices and respect them, and you'll reach the Dudevanna.

Regarding my footwear, I appreciate the feelings NewRocks (those are heavy boots).
I'm the Dothradude, Dude.

Dig your style!
I really could not agree more. I don't see the point in making the robe and sweater some kind of vestment. For cosplay it could be cool but, yes, be yourself and wear what is you and in your heart. That is a Swiss watch of a thought you got going on, dude, and no you don't sound self centered nor pretentious at all. Not to me.

Personally I am a country grunge hippie when it comes to clothing and a flare for offsetting it with Nordic and Chinese clothes now and then. Yes, I am weird but I am me and feel comfortable with it. Foot wear well I wear crocs, Brahma steel toes, Adidas, packers. Crocs mostly at home and of to quick runs to The store. Packers when out with special lady wife. The others as I feel moved...

Peace dudes 8)

I agree totally with this sentiment.

The robe does not make the Dude.

In fact when we started trying to meet as the south coast dudeist league myself an Rev Klaus had a lot of discussion about if we should or shouldn't be wearing robes. We decided it didn't matter. The same stands for jelly's.

Can you truly be dudely if you're wearing something that's uncomfortable? Uncomfiness breeds irritation which breeds aggression.

On the cynical side, if you're copying the Dude's fashion just because he's the Dude, aren't you being fake and just a photocopy?

Just my $0.02. :)

I agree with the consensus that it's important to wear what's comfortable and affordable.

Off-topic: I was interested in getting the Dude's sweater, until I discovered they go for $200-$300! That's not a very Dude-like price, and it makes me question why the filmmakers included it in the Dude's wardrobe. Would a guy who drives a car like that and can't pay his rent spend hundreds of dollars on a sweater? This isn't just a Lebowski thing, I've noticed it in a lot of Hollywood movies.

If you really want to be comfortable, it's no footwear at all, man.

Hmmm... good point of view and 100% agree with the consensus' consensus but my original post wast to point out my opinion on (according to my experience) on the dude's jellies being very uncomfortable and not to implied that it should be a mandatory "garment" for a "good" dudist nor that one should go out of ones' way to imitate the iconography which is the dude and deck themselves out with movie replicas. Therefore, let me ask again, if you have had the opportunity to come across a pair of jellies, do you agree with me or not on their comfortability?

I often wonder if they are an acquired taste. Once you get past the discomfort their easier to wear?

They don't have a very good reputation for comfort.

I have a pair, but only self apply them once in a while. I tried wearing the damn things with ankle socks, but my special lady friend (aka, my wife) said, and I quote; "you look like a dork wearing socks with those." Actually, she was right. But I wore them anyway!

Shagbeard

They are overrated to me and dont feel comfortable neither. Closest that comes close and is cool and comfortable to me are Crocs.
