I find it funny that Putin of all people claims to be devout now. He must have come late to the party since he was already up there during the openly Communist days of the USSR. And a country that regularly permits assault on homosexuals and non-Orthodox believers shouldn't be pointing fingers. (Yes, I know that goes both ways, not just Russia.) And to compare Catholicism and Protestantism to Orthodoxy? As a former Catholic, I know there's not that much diffference.

But all in all, he just wants to have a target. Since there is quite a bit of anti-American sentiment, he's just going after the boogeyman he knows others will hate. I hope there are some Russians who can shed some light on this.

Well dudes I am not the most informed person out there when it comes to politics. Too many ins and outs for this dudes head. Any of these reports have to be taken with a grain of salt you don't know who's sponsoring this. But I got to say it sounds very uptight and sounds a lot like the tactics used by a certain German fascist. A good reminder here to learn from history. The problem with letting religion into politics is there are too many uptight fanatics that want everyone to live by their rules. True politics should be about keeping the machine running so everyone can just sit on their own rug to abide and worship as their own heart decides.

Given the behavior of politicians and televangelists, priest etc who all claim to be devout I'd say Putin fits right in there.
Most are only really concerned that other people believe. Their own personal blather is pure BS.
Kissing babies and calling themselves a "man of God".
Basically you look at who most benefits, and ah you know.....

The sick irony of this article becomes even richer when one realizes that The Washington Times is run by a cult of Christianity and was founded by the late Reverend Sun Myung Moon (of the Unification Church aka the "Moonies"), himself a cult leader with another gospel even lamer than the one that L. Ron Hubbard invented.  That's right: the Moonies own and operate the Times.  That's a fact.
