The majority of Hindi texts are very much undude in my opinion as well.

As you wish, man.  I take an allegorical approach to understanding the Gita, seeing the characters of Krsna and Arjuna as being representatives of an individuals' own lower and higher selves.  In other words, I read it according to an impersonalist (or "Mayavadi") interpretation.  But that's just me.  Others have other opinions about the Gita, and I respect that.

Now Diogenes, on the other hand, he was most Dudely.  You gotta give me that.

Why is this, Shagbeard?  Just asking, no hostility or anything intended.  I am only seeking your opinion.

I really must get round to actually getting my copy out and reading it some time.

Confucianism was used in basically the same way, emphasis was placed on your "role" in society, and how not considering the rest of societies needs before your own was a bad thing.

The early history of christianity is that of little sects destroying each other in an attempt to gain dominance, and again the Roman version only came to dominate the rest because it actually had the Roman army to hand. A lot of the post Byzantian conversions were on the basis that their god must be right because they won the battles. Rather than thinking this is one of the most professional armies int he world with a very high standard of training and discipline. If they had worshiped Bob the sock puppet we would all be living in Bobist (or post Bobist) nations in the west now.

And lets not even begin to consider the Marxist point of view.

Lots of Westerners (like Christopher Isherwood) have tried to shoehorn the Gita into some sort of a plan for abnegating the ego, but I just don't buy it.

Gandhi took this approach, too.  Just sayin', man.

It is my opinion, dude, I know nothing of peaceful Hinduism because never seen it to date. They make me sick just like mega church fated calves turning blind eye to what is happening in Syria and middle east in general. There's no difference between them to me.

In the parlance of Lebowski, far out doesn't mean "good." It means "i hear you". Cf. The Dude to Marty when he says "it's already the tenth."
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

forumdude

Well, it can mean good as well. But when someone just says "far out" it should be taken to mean "ok" or "right" or "i hear you."

Same with some of the other slang affectations, like when Hominid says "vagina." He's sort of taking the piss out of the proceedings in a lighthearted (well, sometimes not so lighthearted) way.

I hear you on that, but with due respect it has never meant that in its use where I am from, CA.

I'm from CA as well. But this is Lebowski slang, not Cali. There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the Lebowski slang. We use it here because it's fun and frolicsome, not because it's essential. But it does confuse people from time to time. One effect it does have is that it can be a bit disarming, which is nice. If someone says "shut the fuck up donnie" to someone else it is incumbent on the other not to get angry. for a long time this was working well. lately, not so much. DigitalBuddha has suggested that I make a clear introduction to the temper of this forum so people won't be confused by the parlance and the attitude and the angles. Good idea methinks.

The movie lingo is not the issue here... We're not talking about someone who directed a movie... (Some play on words in fashion of the movie :) )

I will take it up with him elsewhere than this forum as I doubt seriously that he was keen on your definition. I will pop off for a while. peace dude

Some day I WILL be in your neck of the woods.  And we will indeed grab a lane, grab a burger, have a few White Russians, and suck on a huge fatty.  It's actually on my bucket list.

That was meant for you DB...
