M5 - you're just learning this now? I work for a Canadian telecom; every major phone company in Canada has a fiber optic spur that runs off to CSIS. Theoretically they can only snoop with a warrant. Pfff...

Back in the day I was a member of CND, had friends in Green Peace, and knew members of the Communist party. I also come from a services background, Grandfather, Father, Step Father, were all service men, the stories I heard from them and their friends were always worrying.

Amongst these friends there was a lot of talk about government interference. Particularly the US interfering in the middle east. Now at the time we had very little proof so where labeled paranoid and conspiracy theorists.

Recent US documents released under US Freedom of information Act actually prove CIA destabilised the democratically elected government in Iran because they were Communist, and then backed the Shah Of Iran's Coupe to take over thus seeding the ground for the rise of the Islamic reaction that overthrew him.

What were called paranoid conspiracy  theories in my youth are more and more being proven as fact, which is why I say:

I'm a military brat with so many relatives in the military it's sometimes difficult to figure how many there are. I met Stormin' Norman Shwartzcof and countless other people. The father of my best friend in high school was a CIA spook. The kind of guy who could just look at you with eyes so cold you would leave the room immediately without a word knowing your survival depend on it. That's why they call them spooks, because the hair on the back of everyone's neck! However, they say the devil's greatest trick is convincing people he doesn't exist. I've also met so many die hard fascists with half a dozen kids and mortgages and ordinary jobs who can smile and nod agreeably, while they cut your head off in the name of righteousness.

Sometimes when asked what I believe I tell people I believe I'm an ignoramus. Then they usually argue with me proving me correct. Too often in life it's either laugh, cry, or hide in a cave and I prefer laughing.
