How fast do you drive?

Once upon a long ago I was a foolish young lad who liked fast cars, faster women and a lot of booze.

Two of those things got me into a lot of bother!

I still have a clean driving licence! :)

I once drove 135 miles from Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaima in the UAE in under 1 hour and 15 minutes! Average speed 108 mph. It was a non stop journey not a race exactly, but two cars, me and a colleague who had to be in a certain place at a certain time!

We were nose to tail the whole way. It was Ramadan so there was nothing else on the road as it was just after sunset.

This journey would normally take around 2 and a half hours! We felt the need for speed! :)

I was driving a Mitsubishi Gallant 1.8 GLSi his was a Ltd edition Mitsubishi Magna TH. His was a better spec but mine was sleeker. Both of them not too long out of the showroom!

I'm sure there are some biker dudes out there who have faster averages! :)

I'm an old man now and wouldn't dream of being so reckless! ;)

Peace.

Actually, I'm a rather slow driver. Drives my special lady friend nuts!

I feel pretty safe at 5-7 mph over the limit. The only drawback to that is that at highway speed just that 5-7 mph has a real effect on gas mileage. If I drive 55 I'm getting about 44 mpg. If I get up to 60 or 62 I drop down to about 39, still not bad but I'd rather leave a few minutes early and still get the 44.

I'm usually about 5-10 over posted simply so I don't get run over by the nutjobs on the road.  I routinely keep to 5 over when I'm out on the motorcycle though.  My bike is made for cruising and that's what I do.  If I wanted to get someplace fast I'd have bought a Japanese bike.

Lately it's as fast as I need to to hit the couch.

If I had my way, I'd want to go 15 over posted on highways.

Living in the garden state and knowing the nature of my police force....5 over.

Unless someone's driving like an asshole then I want to get ahead instead of behind.

I now drive a sensible family car at or below the speed limit. I have used up all my motoring karma credits already. I used to ride motorbikes. Big, fast motorbikes. The bigger and faster the better.

I once drove a Kawasaki GPZ900r from Anniesland in Glasgow to The Clachaig Inn in Glencoe in 59 minutes. That's a distance of 82 miles, with a mixture of 30mph and 60mph limits, and about 10 miles of the worst and most congested single-carriageway A-road in the country. These days (with a better, upgraded A-road) it still takes me about double that time.

Driving too fast doesn't really get you anywhere any faster these days, except maybe the Emergency Room or the Undertakers. Too many traffic lights and speed cameras to go charging about the place any more. Plus, sometimes you just don't want to go attracting attention to yourself, you know? You don't want the cops becoming interested in you and your car...

Mostly I'm 10 to 25 over it but I've peaked to bout 50-60 over the limit in some spots of my usual route. I'm talking in kph here though.
I know where the radar stands usually and there aren't many cops patroling the highways here in germany. :)

My very first car I owned on my own was a 1968 Dodge Coronet 2dr with a 440 Police Interceptor engine. The speedometer only went up to 175. I had it pegged on a couple of occasions.   :o

When I lived in the Phoenix area, the local and county police came right out and told everyone they wouldn't ticket for up to 10mph over the limit on the major streets, so I normally held it to that, or flowed with traffic. Now I am in Florida, and the local police are real sticklers for traffic violations. Even 1 - 2 mph over is enough to get you pulled over.

Oompa Loompa Dude

No fucking reason....I'm not driving, handling the money, and talking on the phone all by myself. And besides...I got a rash on my ass so bad I can't hardly siddown.
