Now don't get me wrong, I am most distinctly pro-choice. I'm not one of those soft-heads that believes in "reproductive rights", in fact, just the opposite. I believe that there IS such a thing as reproductive responsibility but not reproductive rights. Once the kid is born you are now saddled with the responsibility for raising him/her to be a properly functioning dude and not go around town micturating on peoples' rugs. I think that a lot of these problems could, in fact, be avoided were the powers that be to come out and give their full support to the idea of evicting unwanted and non-rent-paying tenants from a great many more uteri. If I could find a "I (heart) abortion" t-shirt I would undoubtedly buy and wear one.

That being said, this rotten murderous cock-sucker apparently killed 3 babies that were taken from the womb kicking and screaming. I happen to find this part to be some fucking repugnant shit. I think this asshole should get the death penalty except that then his suffering would then be over. I actually cannot figure out how a sane person could do what this guy did and not be tempted to open a vein once in a while. I think I heard somewhere that one of the mothers died as a result of this shit eating pig fucker's medical practices. If I could be assured that he would receive daily anal raping sans lube for the next 50 years I wouldn't mind paying extra taxes to keep this piece of shit alive for a while.

But hey man, that's like my opinion.

Life imprisonment; he's fucked. I guess he stepped over the line.

I'm right there with ya, DB. I wasn't so eloquent, since my punishment for him involved barbed wire colonoscopies and other fun things for him.

Barbed wire would be too kind for this doctor.  >:( I hope he has asbestos underpants for where he's headed...

It's hard for me to imagine how a person can look at three (I say three because he was convicted for three murders) helpless infants laying on a table in front of him struggling for life and without any natural human feelings of the preciousness of human life and human compassion, take out a pair of scissors, jam them into the infants spines severing them and killing them. This to me is monstrous and absolutely inhuman.

Furthermore, it is hard for me to understand how another person (representing so-called "Planned Parenthood") can go before Congress and actually ask to have what Gosnell did MADE LEGAL in the United States....

I'm pro choice within the confines of that 24 weeks although I believe it should be 19 or 20 weeks...and I know that's splitting hairs but how far back do you go? (This is the Catholics ban on masturbation all over!)

I've heard nothing about this in the UK of course.

But this is abhorrent!

The guy who made the statement "then surely the baby is the patient at this point" is bang on!

He's a serial killer no more no less and he did it for profit.

At least he's in jail forever!

Love is like a butterfly it goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes. :)

Why 24 weeks? When does a human being become a human being?

Caesar dude

24 weeks is the law in which a foetus becomes viable ie. stands a good chance of breathing and living on it's own without medical assistance! At least in the UK

No more no less!

You can argue that a sperm is life and therefore every wank is a sin, hence my catholic reference.

I have no idea when a human becomes a human. Science cannot answer that: Some say at the moment of fertilisation, others when the heart starts to function.

Who knows? And where does consciousness begin? I don't remember being in the womb?

RE: "You can argue that a sperm is life "

Well, no, to be honest, I can't argue that. But I can argue that when a sperm cell enters an egg cell and attaches to the womb and begins to divide (grow), THAT is a human being because who can say it's not, who can say what it means to NOT be a human being at that point? Are you not a human being just because you look like this; is this not a human being (fetus, six weeks)? You and I once looked like this, brain, nose, ears, eyes, heart, mouth, arms, hands, legs, feet.......

Caesar dude

Your question was why 24 weeks: I answered that with what the law states.

That was your only question.

This is true, Sir, you are correct.

Masked Dude

Long ago, the belief was that sperm itself was life and all the woman did was carry the baby. Science later said that it needed both sperm and egg.

Either way, back when I was a little 9-year-old Catholic boy, I sinned like mad!  :)

I'm kinda with you there DB - if it isn't human, then what IS it?  I've heard so many arguments on both sides of this debate, but logic and common sense tell me it's human. Because we (here in Canada) had our abortion laws struck down, it's legal to abort right up to birth. Something really sick about that, YET the pro-choice people seem to have no problem with it. In fact, they wave their pro-choice flag with glee, calling pro-lifers "baby lovers". How can otherwise sensible people actually revel in such sick slaughter?  I've been puzzled by it for decades.

Then there's the other side of the argument. Levitt & Dubner's book "Freakonomics" has a chapter about the drop in crime in inner city ghettos, attributing it to abortions. You can't argue that overpopulation is a serious issue, and that a culling of the herd every once in a while is good for the overall species.  I'm not saying that the ends justifies the means, but there has been a lot of pain and suffering deferred by abortions, early term or not.

Then there's biological evolution. a hundred years ago, kids didn't enter puberty till they were 15 or 16. Nowadays, many are reaching it at 9 and 10 years old thanks to Monsanto et al. We're fucking up our planet and ourselves for the almighty dollar, so it's good when people stand up and go - "HEY! That's wrong!"

It's a complex subject.

Then there's beer.
