A hero, yes yes? Or just a guy in the parlance of his times?
The Dude, a man who drew a line in the sand, a man who
sticks to a strict drug regiman, a guy who abides.
Some chinaman peed on his rug and the adventure began,
The Dude, an otherwise average guy, becomes a legend,
takes a ride on the proverbial roller coaster of life, and though
there were ups and downs, strikes and gutters, he uncovers the
truth and in the end, he comes out on top and he gets it.
The Dude....a legend in his own mind. And in ours.

Personally, I think the dude is all of us (got the whole Zen thing going on here)...........that's just like my opinion, man...................
