Google this article reprint from Psychology Today magazine, just copy and paste, it's called:

This Charming Psychopath

The subtitle is "How to spot social predators before they attack." You don't need that part to google the article, I just put it there because this is much more important than learning how to survive a Zombie Apocalypse. After all, psychopaths, who resemble daywalker vampires more than any human, are real. Zombies are not.

If you value your ability to get through life with any kind of Dudely quality at all, you have to learn how to recognize these predators so you can get away before it's too late.

I wish I had read this article 15 years ago just before I met my second wife. Hell, I wish I'd read it right out of high school.

Seems 4 to 5% of the population has no conscience at all. None. They are capable of doing anything for personal gratification. This is so different from us as normal social animals we go straight into denial when confronted by it.

They are mostly charming, helpful, and if you trust them and turn your back for a split second, the knife goes in. They live for social dominance. They feel entitled to your money, any prestige you have, any praise you gather. And they will kill your career stone dead by lying, cheating, stealing.

I'm 59. I had my early retirement, marriage, half my time with my kids, my home, job, professional reputation and of course money all taken from me, I had 8 on me at one time, and I'm not out of the woods yet. The fight is a tough one. Psychopaths are hard to catch because they are very careful. They are not like the Hollywood mass murderers. Only the stupid and those with other mental disorders end up behind bars. The rest are daylight vampires.

Just read it. I don't want this crap to happen to anyone else. One article may teach you enough to detect and flee.

Pass it on to everyone you care about. And don't feel bad if you never heard of it. I'm a RN and they didn't teach it in school.

Welcome, kkurosawa dude, to our "quiet" beach community. Good to have you here, mang. Bar's over there. Grab a rug and abide.

I'm far too much of a dedicated slacker to read all of your article, but I will admit it looked darn'n interesting in the first paragraph. My solution is to have my laptop read it to me. Check out http://www.naturalreaders.com/

Caesar dude

I'm far too much of a sceptic to believe that you are anything other than a troll/ spammer kkurosawa!

Smells fishy to me DB! ;)

True, anything is possible; but have to give a dude the benefit of the doubt and see if he abides. We'll alert the Walter Sobchak Security team to keep a watch.

Caesar dude

I reckon I spotted a social predator before he attacked dude!

The hackles went up and the radar switched on....

Eyes on dude...eyes on.... ;)

Some who are arguably psychopaths, of course, end up being the power brokers, the movers and shakers in business and politics.

Just because I refuse to worry about it, doesn't mean there's nothing to worry about.

For some insight into my own narcissism, see this little piece of dreck:http://www.illogicopedia.org/wiki/IllogiNews:Illogicopedia_writer_honored_by_Time_Magazine

Whenever theists bring up the old saw of "if there is no God then what is to stop a person from going out and killing and raping" I'm reminded of the lack of conscience in psychopaths.
It seems that theist religions exist specifically to cater to psychopaths.
If the above question needs an answer for a person then they simply must be a psychopath. Most people simply have an inherent empathy for other beings and a natural revulsion to doing harm to them.
Psychopaths don't.

Narcissistic and other personality disorders aren't quite the same as psychopathy although there are some common themes. Personality disorders are caused by childhood trauma, especially were adults don't love children but instead use them to fill their own sense of emptiness through sex, physical or emotional abuse or the intriguiging process first observed by Alice Miller called 'narcissistic cathection'. Personality disorders generally result in selfish, manipulative and destructive behaviour but only because the suffer is seeing the world through a distorted filter that they did not create themselves. These disorders are very difficult to treat. I worked with one patient for over six years and made no progress at all. But there are now methods of breaking down those filters. I have seen it work. Most people actually have some degree of personality disorder basically because none of us are unconditionally loved as children. It is only recognised clinically when it causes significant disruption in a peson's life. So don't be too quick to cast the first stone dude.

It's interesting.
So perhaps irrational faith is a form of Narcissism.

I'm not casting stones.
I'm reacting to the persistent insistence that without a God there is no morality. Specifically the stated question of "if there was no God what is to stop a person from...."
If being aghast that someone would find that confusing amounts to casting stones then I'm guilty as charged. But I don't think so.

I'm not sure the faith thing is that relevant to narcissism.

Narcissism - self love.
Comes form not getting love from outside.
Tied in with the belief that one can not get and is not worthy of love from another person.
Results in selfishness and extreme resistance to giving love.
This is not the person's fault. They are suffering.
