Afternoon dudes! General point of curiosity here... Those dudes here who have jobs.. how do you remain dudely during your working day? It seems to me that most (though obviously not all) jobs are kind of undude by nature.. unless you genuinely love what you do and who you do it for. And of course a lot of jobs come with pressure pretty much built in.. I know mine does. But, got to pay rent, and money is damn useful when you're trying to adhere to a strict drug regimen.

In time honoured fashion, kinda lost my train of thought there. What's your take on it all, dudes? What kind of employment are you in, sirs*, and how does Dudeism fit into the equation?

NobleElement

Dude, I felt like the fucking king rat in the race until I discovered dudeism.  Of course, we got some bad news around the same time.

It was like flipping a switch.  Still in a high stress environment, but I'm doing my best to stay level until I can get outta here and move on to a better lane.

I can imagine how you feel, man. I've been a dudeist of sorts since before there was Dudeism, but most of that was spent as a musician. Then had a kid and suddenly there's a lot more shit you need to provide for. I work for a large IT company in resource control, and I'm damn good at it.. but a lot of pressure jobs seem to come with the prerequisite that you give as much of a shit about how much money the company is making as the company does. I just can't get behind that, especially with millionaire multinationals. I think I abide pretty well in the face of it all.. but figure this must be a fairly common dudeist concern.

Gotta wonder, though:

If a dude somehow got a seat in the US Congress, your state legislature, or your city council, how fuckin far out would that be?

We could, like, start a revolution or what have you.  The slowest-moving revolution.

NobleElement

Yeah, I've got a couple books on the way to help me further wrap my mind around the actual practice of dudeism.  I'd say I'm pretty easy-going, and I do my best to abide, but the Dude was pretty self-sufficient, and didn't have a little Dude in his life, yet.  The holy media doesn't provide guidance for those of us that had some results from our zesty, natural enterprises.

I think the chances are slim.. running for office sounds exhausting. And there's something pretty undude about wanting to be in charge of everyone. But if it did happen.. shit that would be a good day. If the UK replaced our current oily posh-boy masters for some bondafide dudes, I'd have a much nicer land to live in. Same for the US.. I've seen some of the footage of the election campaigning, it beggars belief, man. Hell, every country could do with a Dude at the helm.

Nice thing about being a council member is you're not really in charge of people.  In my city at least, they just make some decisions.  I'd rather have a dude than a realtor making those decisions.  :)

A good point, dude, and well made.

Zen Dog

Well dude, that is a realy interesting question.Mostly because the answer is very complicated for a simple reason.I learnt to swim in the deep end.Way back before I was emotionally mature I was driving nuclear submarines. And then I got layed, as you do.She was a modern Medusa, didn't turn you to stone.Oh no.Something far worse.Fucked with my head.Manipulation, guilt trip the whole thing.Ashore, dreadful job, dreadful location, the most awful conditions.Google Earth Dumbarton Bellsmyre. It was her shit tip,she was happy.Well, I couldn't go back, loss of face. But I began to read stuff.Comes Of working on the railway, there's always a book stall.I didn't read pulp.I was looking for inspiration and eventually I found Richard Bach.Jonathon Livingstone Seagull. And all .The Messiah's Handbook is all ways with me.Well, to come back to the original question.I am a train driver on a commuter railway running out of London.I love helping people  who endeavor to help themselves by planning their journey but due to inexperience, chaos in the system or through misfortune are unable to help themselves. But like a Zen Master,I have intolerence towards those who will not observe the basic fundamentals, like reading the departure information or listening to the announcements.I regard these people as the same kind of limpets as my ex wife. This Report may seem singular and I understand that. For the last 20years,I have not found time to aquire a special lady. You see, after she threw me out,she threw the kids out after me.Hah.Her grandchildren don't even know her.Sorry.Rambling. Must be the rum.Why am I a dude?Hell,I don't know, but I started a bowling league at work which is taking on its own life so it will out last me and a whole lot of people are getting pleasure from it.Some people are Geniuses and change the world overnight. Some of us say "fuck it" and change it one quanta at a time.
If you believe you can tell me what to think.
I believe I can tell you where to go.

It wouldn't be too bad to be on something like a city-council. Because if you think about it, people ignore the local government because too often it transcends simple labels of "democrat" or "republican", thus causing people to disregard it because it lacks the potential for the narrative bias, wherein we view ourselves as the good guys and those who oppose us as the fucking fascists.  The issues of the city and the local people are the issue, not the buzz-words of the media. And because people ignore these issues so often, the local governments can enact the most change. As it is said in our holy texts:

The best achievers are scarcely known by the bums, - The local governments who control the biggest portion of most of our daily lives, yet we ignore.
"Take it easy" is more than just a simple farewell, it's a blessing, a well-wish, and a what-have-you.
