I was out driving around the other day when I passed by our local lanes, and the lot was deserted and covered in snow. I instantly had this sinking feeling so I stopped in to investigate- low and behold the fucking Nazi's at the car dealership across the street bought them out and plan on dozing it and building yet another dealership. Fuckin A. This is a fucking bummer man! We used to roll there quite a lot especially in the winter when there ain't shit to do. I asked the guys in charge of removing the pinsetters and what have you what's to become of the old lanes.... long story short I was able to score two whole lanes worth of alley wood! It cost very little and the bones I paid went to the children's league. It was a lot of work removing it, but I have a stack of cool lane wood in which I plan to make tables, bar tops and whatever else out of. I'll miss going just down the street to a cool old bowling alley to roll, but at least I got some of the lane wood to keep the memories alive!

Yeah it really bums me out. Being a carpenter I appreciate the old nostalgic buildings and when I see them neglected or worse yet torn down it's a fuckin bummer man. Lots of history wasted. I still can't comprehend the fact that they demolised the Hollywood Star Lanes. Makes me a bit sick inside actually to think of such a retro cool place not being preservedd or respected. Fucking Nazis, nothing changes.

That sucks man. Bowling centers are disappearing left & right. One closed in my town a couple of months ago. Well, I hope you have fun with your wood. Sorry for your loss, dude.

Yeah I've noticed that as well. Alleys, along with many other small businesses, are closing shop. I think a lot of it's because people aren't going out like they used to for simple fun activities like rolling a few on the lanes. Shame because once they're gone, they're gone for good.

Well dudes. The league  I started at work seems to be fading away. The alley doesn't want to open untill late on a wednesday. People are getting distracted. Some of them are talking about Green Bowling, which is no bad thing. I once won a boules competition in France.Which was nice.The sun was shining, the wine was flowing,the Craic was ribald and the attire was non existent. Happy days.

[/quote]Yeah that's it. Traditionally although not exclusively played by people of a more 'mature' disposition. Apparently there is a place on an island in the Thames at Reading that has an exceptional club house. 'Lawn' bowlers often play pub skittles in the winter here. An early version of ten pin but with better beer. And a Freudian sideways link has just occured to me. A while ago I youtubed the Lawn Chair Drill Team.It might appeal to ex military dudes.
