FBI plans social network map alert mash-up application

The FBI is seeking to develop an early-warning system based on material "scraped" from social networks.

It says the application should provide information about possible domestic and global threats superimposed onto maps "using mash-up technology".

So soon after arrest? Where did you hear that?

I guess I read a bit of misinformation or where I heard it from went and found everything he is being charged with and added up the sentences. According to this article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/9027871/Kim-Dotcom-the-millionaire-playboy-behind-Megaupload.html he faces a maximum of 20 years and this one http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/24/kim-dotcom-megaupload_n_1229942.html states he will face a maximum of 5 years under New Zealand law.

A couple of years back Kim invited some of his so called "buddies" on a Ferrari holiday. While I think that is a very dude thing to do, I feel bad for him now. Anyway. I hope some of his fellow inmates are good Dudes by heart, invite him to a round of TBL and bring him back on the path of righteousness.

Oh that sort of thing is already happening.
You heard about the guy who got arrested for quoting the movie Fight Club on facebook?
What he did was stupid. But imagine all the things they are keeping records on.
He got arrested but probably 99% of what they do just goes into a file somewhere.
And I'm sorry but the way that Facebook has been sharing info probably has a lot to do with this sort of Government surveillance.

I doubt it will stop anything, but here is a petition to stop ACTA at the U.N. level. For those who don't know about ACTA, but have heard of SOPA or PIPA it's the same shit on a different day.

BikerDude from the looks of the article it sounds like one of his friends didn't get the joke. I do agree that it was dumb for the charges to finally be dismissed after two years though.

It's the government , if it makes sense , they won't do it but feel they know what's best for us . Screw 'em!

the basics are:

They are doing it (listening to our conversations) with the land lines.

They are doing it with the Mobile (cell) phones.

they have been reading our mail since our fathers day (or fathers fathers day).

There is little point in acting surprised when we are told they are developing other ways to pry into our "private" lives.

This also worries me.

Just because they are using it against an "enemy of the state" at the moment does not mean they wont be using it against you next.

A massive, highly sophisticated piece of malware has been newly found infecting systems in Iran and elsewhere and is believed to be part of a well-coordinated, ongoing, state-run cyberespionage operation.

For a nice healthy dose of cynical perspective I reccommend Terry Gilliams BRAZIL.You don't need the brains of Werner von Braun to know where the inpiration came from.I watch it from time to time to compare it with what's going on in the apparent real world.
