Minute of silence for Kim Jong Il boycotted at UN

A minute's silence at the UN General Assembly to mark the death of Kim Jong Il has been boycotted by the US, Japan, South Korea and European nations.

I think the UN, for once, (a least quite a few in the general assembly) did the right thing by boycotting a minute of silence for a monster like Kim Jong Il. A minute of silence (i.e. paying respects) for a vicious murdering dictator guilty of starving people to death while he lived a life of luxury would have been an international disgrace.

True about his son; only a mindless communist dictatorship would put a 28 or 29 year old punk kid in charge of a nation with nukes.

UN boycotts of five minute silences are not exactly huge action. Though it is good they are actually acting.

Oh and it isn't new year yet...not until the 1st of January as far as I'm aware which is a few days away yet.

People have been saying this to me since xmas and it ain't right....cos I know that everything can change in a minute...we might not even get there!

Certainly, acknowledging the passing of a despotic tyrant with any kind of respect or reverence is wrong.  But yes, sadly, it may be out of the frying pan and into the nuclear reactor unless there are some very stayed and moderate advisers to Kim Jong-un.  If he's been raised in a paranoia bubble, there's trouble a'brewin', but... knowing about his older brothers and their worldliness, and the amount of forbidden culture than Kim Jong-il used to wallow in, I'm holding out hope that he'll refine his tyranny to his own people and continue to keep tabs on what the rest of the world does, maybe with a bit irrationality :/
