As you might know, I'm a recent college grad. Unfortunately, a media degree doesn't count for shit these days and so I've been unemployed and not really knowing the career I want to go into for the past 6 months or so.

While I've got an interview for a crappy seasonal temp position at the local big brand electronics store I'm still thinking about the future. What kind of dudely careers do you guys suggest?

You know, something where you can bum around for a bit, maybe get out into nature, help your fellow dude and all the while not have to worry about the world at large.

I'm sure I saw a thread or something up on some forum or other where people were guessing what the Dude did after the movie ends and someone said that he became a massage therapist or life coach. Seems a pritty dudey thing to do as a day to day job, standing around all day either inside listening to whales and helping others relax or outside doing dude-jitsu and yoga with a white russian in hand amongst the birds and the bees.

Anyone else give their advice? Or possibly even what career they're looking into? A dude's gotta have some clams/rocks/bananas right?

I deliver sandwiches and it's pretty Dudely. I am outside all day, free to do mostly whatever I want, and actually make a pretty nice living.

That said, I am hoping to do training next year to become a Qigong instructor, which if you aren't familiar, is kinda Tai Chi-ish. Very Dudely job.

If you get a caregiver license you can grow pot here in Colorado and sell it to medical MJ dispensaries. ;D

I work at a day habilitation center for adults with developmental disabilities, it's pretty dudely. I sit around, tell jokes, color pictures, play Memory, do a few crosswords, maybe play some catch with the guys; and doin all that makes me a model employee. Gotta wipe some asses occasionally, but at least you're helping people too.

My daughter is 6 & has autism. I'm lucky that she's progressed into Asperger's territory after 4 years of me doing intensive therapy with her....but I gotta give you props for doing what you do every day! I worked with MDA for 10 years at the telethon & summer camps and then with developmentally disabled adults & kids for a summer in grad school and I truly respect anyone who can handle the job!!!!!
Trust me. I don't fuck with the Jesus.

A.B. Dude

I work at a library. Mostly I just put books away, clean DVDs, and other various administrative tasks. Pretty chill job--I love it.

I used to wipe bums too. And clean bathrooms after mental patients fecal-smeared the walls. Turns out it wasn't my life calling, so I play with computers now. I have the utmost respect for anyone who *stays* in the field and helps those less able to look after themselves.

Tip of the hat...

Hmm, inn'restin' vocational compeerages here... upon dropping out of U (after 16 years of post secondary studentiousness), I worked the group home world, then taught a junior high program for students with moderate to profound autism for 12 years, and now teach a "typical" special needs senior high class.  And yes, bowling (albeit Canadian 5 pin) is a favoured Friday outing choice!  ;D

Though it's occasionally "challenging", as they say, mostly it's just a wonderful way to be an Achiever.  Persons with developmental delays are especially fine dudes!!
Okay, Dude, have it your way.

Worst I've had to do is unblock toilets in a Stockton-on-Tees nightclub that had been blocked and idiots had continued to use.

I did a bit of private hospital portering myself. Luckily that only means you have to lift stuff mostly and serve dinner to the old ones.
