What is the point of all this doom saying about 2012?

There is only two possible (provable) outcomes of the whole 2012 scenario.

1) You are right, the planets align, the sun flares, the Mayan calendar did actually point to the rapture, the world ends, you die.

- Congratulations your last words can be "see I told you so!"

- But you're still dead like the rest of us.

Or

2) Nothing happens.

Nada.

Zip.

Y2K,  the Jehovah's Witness prediction (why we don't see people with "The end is nigh" boards any more) of the end of the world at 2000 all over again.

So why bother you are either going to die or setting yourself up to look very silly?

Get on with your life and try and enjoy what you have left (if it's going to end). You could be hit by a bus tomorrow, have a heart attack, or be hit by a stray falling piano (all just as likely) , and then what have you done, wasted your time worrying over an apocalypse you didn't get to see.

Just get on with you're life and stop whinging about it.

If we die, we die, if we don't, we don't, situation normal, happens every day (people die, and people don't).

Oh and for those that didn't see it "Atheists offer to care for Christians pets after the Rapture".

I have a book next to me called the year 1000 by Robert Lacey and Danny Danzigger. They were all  apprehensive about the turn of the century then...comets being harbingers of doom and all that crap...I seem to remember a similar thing in the late 90's with Halleys comet and Halle Bop and Shoemaker Levy appearing in the skies. I was lucky enough to see the first two from  a vantage point in Sril Lanka. I also seen in 1996 a comet called Hayakutake in Thailand. It was one of the biggest mother fucking comets to appear in the night sky in living memory...won't be seeing it agin though as it's a 50,000 year cycle! None of them brought death and destruction to our planet! The 21st of December will come and the 22nd will follow and the whole durned comedy will repeat itself...ho fucking hum.

Head for the hills or an ancient monument or stay at home and drink beer...nothing will change. The rich will get richer and the poor will pay for it all as normal. The world will not suddenly move to a more enlightened plane and aliens will not land. The only thing that might happen is that a lot of the healy feely brigade will become embarrassed and fuck off once and for all!

But, we DO know that at some point, some huge disasters will hit us... the caldera in Yellowstone; geologists are waiting for the entire eastern seaboard of North America to destabilize and cause a 300-foot tsunami; then there's the US election... ;-)

Oh well, we didn't need that part of the country anyway. We have Venice Beach and the dude's pad to fall back on. 

I thought we were waiting on the west coast so fall off? Just to be safe we should start filling the San Andreas fault with super glue.
