Hello, dudes. Is Dudeism recognised in Australia (Victoria) as a religion? Once being ordained, what privileges does this entitle me to?

Yep your an Australian Dude, there I recognised you does that help?

Sorry I'm in a particularly silly mood (I would say today but that becomes hard to spot the difference).

Australian law is very similar to English Law (yes English law because there is two legislatures here in the UK one English, one Scottish), based on the Latin precepts.

The main problem is getting Dudeism to be recognised by the State (as in the whole government).

Here in England that actually requires an act of Parliament (despite false rumours that if enough of us put "Jedi" on the census it becomes a nationally recognised religion).

In the US it is fairly simple because there is a constitutional split between state and religion (yes you try and work that one out especially with recent finds by revgms etc). There particular state (as in not federal) legislation dictates congregation, and other perquisites to be able to perform legal ceremonies.

Here in the UK we need to be recognised then given license by the chief registrar to perform weddings etc before they are legal, I am presuming it is fairly similar in Australia.

Do check with a local (qualified) lawyer as this is only my opinion and in no way do I represent myself as a legal professional.

actually if you do go and get some info post it here so we can try and start a register of "What I need to do to be recognised" type information source.

BTW welcome to the beach community rugs over there, bar in the corner.

Yeah, solidarity umongst our little commonwealth!  We revel in our lack of recognition.  If the present goverment were to embrace me and my religious views, I think I might want to drop them and run screaming.  I mean, can you imagine agreeing with Ken Clarke... on anything??  Play it cool, don't let the Thatcherites see you.  Damn Thatchists, man! :P

don't damn them too terribly. i built a righteous hut out of them once, and i wouldn't want materials to be scarce since it's nearly time to replace the roof.

Which one?  Was it Douglas Hurd?  Oooh, oooh, Norman Tebbit?  Of course, I'd opt to use the Iron Lady herself, much more sturdy roof material, but not so easy to corrugate!
