I can't abide this one, Turtle. Garcia copped out and went commercial. Selling fucking business ties, very undude. Also, killing yourself on drugs is very undude also. Fuck that, this is not Nam, there are rules. That's just like, my opinion, man......

Garcia when he was dude like............

i gotta tell you something D-buddha, in 93-94, i did nothing but follow the Dead around the country with my 2 best friends gettin high and havin a good time, we didnt give a shit about anything.

I dont know about the selling out, I know the Dead had/have their own private company, its not like they are marketing their products under some mainstream corporation. And I dont think there is anything wrong with capitalism and making money, its all the other bullshit, the bureaucrats, the manipualtion, the phony shit, that makes the problems. Honest people selling products ...dude...thats just abiding. As long as nobody is trying to brainwash you with subliminal marketing techniques or asking you, the consumer, to bend over, to be fucked, you got a date on wednesday man..., or just generally manipulate, lie to....u get my drift....what was i saying?

Yeah.

Anyway, all I can say is that seeing the Dead live....even in the 90's...when everyone says they were shit....those were the best days of my life man...SOOOOO MUCH FUN!...So much fun...I mean...all those people just gettin high and listening to music and dancing and having a good time together....and Jerry Garcia was the center of it man, he was the grease that kept the whole thing going.

Despite the heroin addiction, and the marketing....

........I believe that Jerry abides.

Careful man, there's a beverage here!

Sounds like you had a righteous time, Turtle. For some reason I just couldn't get into the Dead or Garcia. Not my kind of music, I guess. I dig just about anything style of music, but as a group, the Dead just didn't ring for me. Not like I hate the fuckin' Dead, Man, more like ho hum, just not my thing. But that's cool, we all have our path. For me, Santana is a dude from that genre'. Once when Hendrix was asked who he thought the greatest guitarist was, he answered "without a doubt, Carlos Santana." Fucking a.

Yeah, nothing wrong with some capitalism, but fuck man, ties? Ha! That seems below the dude.

I think that both dudes are speaking about two great musicians. And maybe both musicians are very comercials, but, fuck it, we can be worried about the pockets of the others.

Having been part of the scene from '89-94 I have to say that even with ALL the shit that went on near the end, Jerry still was able to reach out and send some good energy.  I personally had a moment when he helped me get my head straght during a show where things were getting a little weird..."if you get confused, listen to the music play"... shouldn't have had that second strawberry, I think there was something in them... good thing I was in the second row, so he could see me.

Hey Dude1967 - awesome, maybe we ran into each other back then, you never know.
I hardly ever got in the front rows, but once I made my way down there and Jerry was like...RIGHT THERE.
And I swear he looked straight at me.  :) I'm sure everybody says that, but I swear it man!

There was a lot of shit going down tho, did you happen to go to the Orlando show in spring of '94 when the friggin police tear-gassed everybody?! That was crazy. I was right in the middle of that, it was chaos. A few people decided to rush the fence, next thing you know, they got the whole Orlando police force in riot gear, police clubs, and tear gas bombs going off everywhere. All the fast food places down on the road had their employees come out with bowls of water so we could all wash our eyes, I'll never forget that.

By the way, have you been to Burning Man? I've been wondering if its worth it to check that out.

Turtle- We may have run into each other, I was the guy with the long hair, beard, wore a lot of tie-dye, and Guatemalan clothing, and sandals.  I may have also been pretty high. ;D
never had the chance to go to Burning Man, but heard from friends that it's worth it, but, that's just, like their opinion, man.

I also was never a huge Dead fan, but I always respected them and the whole scene around them.

I say Jerry abides, too.
The whole concept abates.

Garcia never "went commercial". The ties were VERY cool, and if the dude EVER had to wear a tie, he would have worn one of them. He also did not kill himself on drugs. He died clean and sober in rehab.
