well, I don't want to give the impression that I think that what I come up with here is new shit exactly for the old dudeists (or old Lebowskists, or what have yous), but I myself find it so fucking interesting that I post it anyway.

Coitus - castration - vagina, what have you in the Dudes dream on his way from Jackie's place. I had no clue until recently that the Coen brothers have a whole Busby Berkeley thing going on there. Now, a few non-yank fellas who may, like me, not be that familiar with the whole Hollywood thing, might ask: Who the fuck is Busby Berkeley? Then all I'd say is: Not a lightweight, man, not a lightweight.

Yeah, that Berkeley guy sure is strongly vaginal, and also scissory sometimes - I mean the lovely ladies' legs go like scissors.

I've just read Nielands article in "The years work in Lebowski studies" (Indiana University Press). According to him (and I find it highly plausible), the Coen brothers not only "quoted" Busby Berkeley but also the feminist reading of his work by e.g. Laura Mulvey and maybe other feminists: Vaginas are shown in the pattern (hence "men find it difficult to say vagina directly" and treat objects like women...) and the fear of castration being expressed (and staved off) in this choreography.

It's fucking complex!

As I said, for old dudeists probably all old shit. For me, it is another example of how that movie time and time again allows you to discover something you haven't seen before.

you know, I suppose they have a copyright-thing going. If it's got something in it from Sony or several other companies, youtube doesn't let you access the things over here. I will contact Bill Kunstler or Ron Kuby about it.

Ah, speaking of which: Over here is Germany. Actually I live close to Bremerhaven, where Elvis once arrived in Germany.

As for the stills, well, thanks man, that's very thoughtful, but it seems to involve a lot of clicks and things and pushing buttons, finding icons and you know.... a bit too complex I think...

So I just put it down to: Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes you can't watch the video, and go bowling.
