So, I have been engaged in this debate at the CN, and have been beset by reactionaries. It seems that some would rather build walls and send troops than to actually address the root problems. Prohibition creates the drug smuggling trade, and capitalist paraquats that don't follow labor laws are the reason for undocumented workers taking jobs.

In my opinion, racial profiling and saber rattling are no way to run a country. I am curious as to what other Dudeists think about AZs new law. The Colbert Nation is a great place where dudes and reactionaries can gather and hash these things out, but some of them are kinda scary jerks, still good fun to go The Jesus on em'.

yeah so what do you Dudes think, and with all the other "religions" making statements on it, is that something we want to do also?

Looks like their saying "across this line, YOU DO NOT!!"

Been saying for years we should just make Mexico a State and get it over with.
Problem solved!  ;D

I'm hoping that the Supreme Court roundly rejects it.

Surly that just pushes the problem onto another country, though it wont be the Mexicans any more.

The problem is with "illegal" aliens crossing the US/Mexican border. If Mexico is made a State then they are no longer illegal. They will then be subject to all the laws and taxes every US citizen is subject to.

Once we draw a line and say "across this line you do not..." we create us and them. When there are no borders...there's just us.

Hell, maybe they can teach us to build a better plate of nachos if we annex Mexico. But have to say that this is not Nam, there are rules. Hard to be dude like on this issue. Don't want to fuck over our border buddies, but we need to keep things in order. So, until we buy Mexico, how about asking Mexicans to come through the front door...and not pee on our rugs.

That's just like my opinion, man.

Missed the point I was trying to make. It's fine drawing a line, but there will always be people on the right side and people on the wrong side.

Britain, and Europe (the EU) suffers from the same Illegal immigrant problem. the EU has re-drawn it's borders a number of times but there is always someone outside that wants to get in and doesn't always want to do it the legal way.

I wasn't making any comment on the legal/illegal aspect just the moving a line on a piece of paper won't solve the problem.

You have illegal Mexicans, if you move the line you still have the problem with illegal Guatemalans, and with the Chinese, the Africans, and the Arabs, much like Europe.

Moving the line doesn't solve the problem until all the world is inside the line.

In my humble opinion.

Exactly! I agree!
As long as we keep drawing lines in the sand...it will always be us vs them.

So tell me again...why do we have borders? 8^)

It's so the fascist imperialist governments can control and tax the citizens, imparing their freedoms, and brain washing the individual to bend them to their will.

(in my humble opinion).

Was that it??
You're probably right. Thanks for reminding me.
But you know, after a few caucasians and a j or two...well...most of that shit just doesn't seem to matter all that much.
Just gotta keep the mind limber.

I donno, if we had universal health care, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was honored, oh and if we got rid of the Drug War, yeah this wouldn't be such a bad planet to live on. Until there is true equity amongst all humans, it is gonna suck at times.

But maybe cc is right, probably best to carve out a small Dudtopia and wait for the rest of the world to slow down and catch up. Like Lao Tzus water, seek the low quite places, and abide, the world will eventually come to you.

Stay limber Dudes.

And  finally on the news today, we have found them. After twenty years of religious seclusion the Church of the later day Dude has been discoverd in the last acre of the last rain forest. Loggers today said they found the emaciated bodies of the exclusive sect said to have gone into hiding in the early part of the century to "wait for the rest of you Dudes to catch up with us". Though there seems to be parts of the clearing truned over to what look like poor attempts to grow crops for food the area is over grown with hemp plants. There are reports of some of the bodies showing signs of cannibalism. Obviously this is another religious dream failed in the light of day when all the participants got so stoned they couldn't do anything else for them selves. Well at least they all died smiling. From CNN tonight, goodnight.

Damn dude! That's quite a picture you have painted!
I guess I need to stop telling people to EAT ME!! 8^)
Besides "hemp" we would need wheat, coffee and a cow to round out the basic necessities!

Lets see...what was this conversation all about? Oh yeah AZ immigration laws!
How did that work out?
If I understand them right AZ was complaining the Feds where not helping to keep the criminals out. They were happy to invite the illegals who wanted to work real cheap, but now they are complaining about the drug dealers and kidnappings that came along with the cheap labor.
To bad Americans will not work stoop labor for a few dollars an hour. The employers complain Americans do not want to do the work, but they are only paying what amounts to slave wages.

It doesn't look as if there is a simple solution to the problem any more. AZ created the problem with their own greed by inviting the illegals for the cheap slave wage labor instead of paying a decent wage to their own citizens. Once they opened the flood gates...well water is not the only thing that flows down hill...shit does to.
