Dude, I've been thinking about this for about a year now.  If I were to design a dudeist church I'd do it  like the folks at Earthship Biotecture.  No heating or cooling, self contained sewage, provides food in it's green house, collects rain and snow for water, or should I say, these houses abide.

This is something I've pondered about too. I'm not one to place too much importance on a building but it would be cool to have a place to congregate. I'd never heard of Earthship Biotecture before, interesting stuff. If you're interested in alternative buildings you should check out some of the cool things people are doing with cob. I've lost my favorite links but a google search brings up some cool stuff. Building with mud, that's something that's possible on a Dude's budget.
I don't get it. How do I sign this? Is there a special pen?

If all us Dudes band together to collect glass bottles and cans (caucasians and oat soda's anyone?) we could get enough to build a pretty cool church (is church the preferred nomenclature? How about temple? JMOD).  The old tires could probably be procured for free at tire suppliers and land fills.  Also, Dudes, we could do a modular style Earthship design witch would allow us to do the whole thing one room at a time!  Wave of the future, Dudes!  100% self-sustainable!

Here here!

Not only is that a core part of the Dudeist way, but we can hold a "church" anywhere between two or more compeers.  A your own home, a pub/bar, a bowling alley, a park, a movie theatre or even a chat room.  It's not the place, it's the state of mind of the faithful (aka, the abiding).

I myself am looking forward to the next congregation of our local church, with Meekon and Klaus.  The bar's over here, man.

Well Dudes, once I get my own bungalow, I'll pretty much be considering it a Dudeist Church of sorts.  No real schedule, I'll probably just be hanging out, but all you Dudes are welcome to join me.  Hopefully I can get my bad back into the Colorado area if you know what I mean ;)

piratedude, Rev. Wade, that is an excellent idea about building a church/temple or what -have-you, and certainly something that many of us must have entertained. I had a similar idea to raise funds to build a Dudeist temple in Canada. I do understand that there are good reasons supporting both sides of the discussion.

The British dudes are quite right in their assertion that a bricks-and-mortar location is unnecessary. I like the idea that a Dudeist conclave is a movable feast. It cuts down on the overhead, eliminates any maintenance issues, all the real estate costs and such, and appeals to the lazy man in me. There are no real Dudeist congregations to my knowledge, so, whom would it serve?

On the other hand, Having some real real estate behind your church is a respectable short cut to legitimacy in the eyes of the square community. A visible presence in the community, even if it is only one in a nation, will help to attract a congregation, if that's your goal. My vision is something like a Dude's drop-in center. A Dudeist priest would abide there, full time. He could minister to the needs of the congregation, whatever they may be. Perhaps a safe haven to partake of the sacramental herb, or what-have-you, or just good conversation. He could sell Dudeist merch and collect donations to help fund the place. Rent it out for weddings and bar-mitzvahs, decorate it on the holy days, and just fucking abide in style, man. I'd bet that it would be a real chick magnet too, for real laid back hippie chicks who dig the Dude's style. I see that bowling alley down the center aisle, and The Dude at the far end of the lane, and I dig it the most.

Pipe dream or practical, I know not. I know what I like. If you build it I will come.

i totally realise what some of you dudes are saying about not needing a place of worship etc....etc.. but  A/ it would be cool for us all to have somewhere to chill out together and have the chance to meet up with brothers we have not met as there would always be an open door. and B/ in the uk it would help to legitimise our faith as i believe you need to have a permanent place of worship to be recognised.

whether you like the idea or not well thats like your opinion dude, take it easy brothers

Rev. Ed C

Well, here in the UK, building a Dudeist church or whathaveyou is going to suffer from abuse and vandalism.  What we need to relax isn't to have to put up with people taking the piss.

If anything, we need to build some sort of club, like a lodge to meet up in.  Make it a real place to relax.

Calling it a church or temple or anything similar will just make it seem like some religious parody to non-dudes, which only draws in the ASBO arseholes.  The thing is to keep any such place how we'd really like it to be, have it put down as a church officially, and hold regular meetings where we can discuss our business like a any other group of faithful.  I mean, any modern church has a church hall built in anyways, usually with a serving hatch from the kitchen for coffee morning, or in the case of this catholic church I was in for a wedding last year it had a bar!

I think we need to define the meaning of church anyway.  I mean, we're called a church as a whole, but surely we want our sacred building to be called something else, like an Alley, or a Lane, or a Bar, or a Club, or Lodge, or somesuch.  Afterall, we're not supposed to just be a parody of one particular religion, we're a new set of ideals founded on a culmination of respectable philosophies.  We want a unique indentity, custom designed to fit with our ethos.
