Is there any more of this interview?

I must say I am against wearing "robes" as a prerequisite to Dudeism.

I am A Dudeist because I am, not because I have a piece of paper or a robe that I wear, I am a Dudeist in all things (as far as possible), not just because I wear a robe and have a beard.

BTW nice to see Oliver again, he went through a media hussy period a while back then has been quiet for long time.

Hey Meekon,
If you haven't already found it, this is the actual Nightline spot.

I see it as freedom to wear your robe, rather than a requirement to do so. I agree; a dude is a dude, robe or not.

See I quite like wearing my Shemagh around my head when I'm feeling particularly holy.

So if a robe does it for you then I have no problem with that 9just don't be telling me I need one).

I just don't think we should represent that certain aspects are needed, else we will end up being like the Pharisees and arguing that someones robe is not the correct shade of brown to be a true robe.

Is that a head robe? 8)(http://dudeism.com/smf/Themes/default/images/post/thumbup.gif)

Maybe this is just hopeful thinking, but I do not think that anyone here would say you would have to wear a robe to be a Dudeist. Not even the Dudely Lama himself. I think it is a pretty fun way to celebrate the movie and the laid back aspect of the religion, but no hard and fast rules.

I personally like to throw on a pair of Thai fisherman pants, a comfortable Tee, and relax that way when I am feeling particularly mellow and Dudely. I get overheated in robes...

I think it's more about not seeing anything wrong with wearing a robe to the market than necessarily wearing one.
I don't own a robe but I do own a pair of fuzzy slippers that I do generally wear to the store when I get my morning coffee.

IMO If a person feels silly being at that level of casual then they may be too uptight to be a dude.

Actually, my point in advising robe wearing was a way of saying "wear your dudeness openly" or "feel free to live your inner dude." The robe is a mere symbol, but a good one IMHO. 8)

I'm not sure if I'll ever wear a robe but not because I'd be embarrassed. Not sure how I'd look in one. However, my "robe" (the origins of the word not only mean a loose garment, but also booty or spoils or plunder) is different. I have no problem walking in public wearing old ratty sneakers or worn out jeans. I will wear a shirt such as my pirate girl ("Forget the chest, it's all about the booty"), Eaton Beavers college tee, various comicon shirts, shirts out of season (Halloween shirt in the spring), or anything at all.

I'm slowly being 100% not giving a fuck about what I'm wearing as long as I'm happy in it. This pisses off my "friend," more of an acquaintance, who is 100% about how he looks. He constantly asks a few women he knows what he should wear. He wears nothing because he's comfy in it; he wears it because he's totally concerned how they look to others.

I have the same opinion as Meekon on the subject.

you can't judge a book by its cover.

I'm a Dudeist, whether I wear a tux, or jeans, or a robe, or I run naked with my beard and hair flying in the wind.

Won't change.

That rocks so hard it abides, dude!

I don't have a robe, but while wanting one, not for Dudeism as I see myself a Dudeist without it, no I want one to not freeze my ass off out the holy bathing session. I wear a 12 foot scarf like one of my favorite dudes, the fourth Doctor. Get comments about blasting away fashion norms but I don't care, I can't be worried about that shit. Keep on abiding dudes and take er easy no matter robe, shemagh, slippers and what have you... You all inspire this plain dude  8)

Although I love my robe and wear it frequently, that's only because it's been a rather cold winter so far and my robe is big, fluffy, fleecy warmness.

That's the beauty of Dudeism... no trappings, but abundant symbolism if one so chooses to indulge.

Besides, the hoodie is the new robe.  :D

Need camo that looks like couch cushions, then we'd all be safe.  :)

Yeah, that was one of the better scenes in the movie. Very slick indeed!

I have an urban camo body warmer. Went down the "beach" (shingle) near Worthing UK, one evening with a lady friend. Just sitting there watching the waves. She went back to the car for a jumper then couldn't find me because I'd completely blended in with the background. All I could hear was a plaintive cry of my name because she thought I'd wandered off.

I don't always wear my robe, but I have worn it to the head-shop, liquor store, and to pop in for some half&half as needed. People died face down in the mud for my right to do that, man....    :)

Yeah man I've darned my robe to head to the beer store for some oat sodas... Figured fuck it, the place is frequented by far worse than a dude in a robe wearing his sunglasses!

After reading this post, I wanted to see if the robe made a difference, so I bought one.

I can firmly say that my beliefs on the matter are the same as with other "religious" clothing--it only helps you so far as it puts you in the right headspace. Twelve seconds of wearin' this baby, and I can already feel all the f**ks I give just  melting away because I'm so comfortable I could care less about anything else. The robe doesn't make me more like the Dude on its own, but it does this thing to me where it makes me relax, and isn't that what we're about, man?

Take it or leave it, y'know. But I dig it.

Whenever I have performed a ceremony it's mostly for the people I'm doing it for.

I don't necessarily think blessing a van makes a difference except in the celebrants mind. It's the persons mind that projects into the world and makes the difference.

Wearing robes sometimes helps them with this.

I am not wearing my robe ouside yet, but there was definitely a moment, when I said to myself: what am I wearing right now? Is it again something that makes me uncomfortable, just because people say I should wear it? Another pair of skinny fit jeans? Another top that makes me perspire too much? And why am I to avoid being barefoot when somebody drops in?
So now I am trying to wear loose cotton clothes, including long skirts, that are comfortable AND look nice. It's mostly about choosing the right colour and watching out for too many signs and logos together.
I suppose I might try a sari as well someday.
