In reflective thought.

Hannover, fucking-a, that's just 2 hours by car from where I abide.
A meeting is a lovely idea. I know many "Landsleute" who love TBL. So, there must be quite a few more around somewhere in the German woods. Just, how can we get in touch with them? There don`t seem to be many of them around here, or am I wrong?

Heinzberg, Liek actually.

Oh, that's indeed very close to the Dutch mountains! ;D
-
I think the films nihilists were by co-incidence German, I don't think the inference was all Germans were nihilists (though that may not be true of the residence of Berlin).
-
Dutch mountains..... hah. Being a Dutchie I've met a few nihilist "noble Germanics".....Being that they have no beach to speak of they would regurgitate half the population over Holland in the summer......
Let me stay dude and say it's good to hear there's some laid back folks over there...... ;D

Lol. At Laarbruch there was a drinking club who had T shirts which said Nijmegen Mountain rescue team...so you're not do far out dude! 8) 8)

Thanks, meekon, but neither do I think the Coen Brothers wanted to imply all Germans were nihilists nor do I think it was coincidence that the four were Germans in the movie.
There are more allusions to national socialism (or taking the piss out of Germans) in the film (the best one in my opinion being "Nihilists, fuck me, say what you want about the tenets of national socialism, at least it is an ethos."
So, the Polish-Catholic-converted-to-Judaism Walter d e f e n d s national socialism (to a certain extent). I mean, how can you get more ironic, while at the same time drawing the fangs out of the monsters mouth. The Coen Brothers are fucking geniuses - well we knew that before, ok.
Or: Nihilists, nazis, ... they threatened castration, we don't split hairs here, do we?
Also, Burkhalter (the fuck at the league office), who scheduled the semis on a Shabbas, is a Kraut. How often must Walter tell him?
When Walter "puts down" papa Lebowski, he says "Achtung Baby!"
Sobchak Security reads abbreviated SS on the neon-sign above his shop.
Also, as an aside, in Barton Fink, the psychopath (although of course the question is, who is not a psycho in this movie) Mundt (another name sounding German. ), kills one of the two police detectives with the words "Heil Hitler"; the detectives, one of them has the name "Deutsch", and Lipnick, who is from Minsk originally, are clearly anti-semites, as can be taken from earlier scenes.
So to wrap it up: No coincidence, but bloody well made up (does this expression exist?).

Hi Oscar-dude, good to see you here.
when I was younger we really looked up to the Netherlands. Damn cool country, what with cannabis being legal, soldiers wearing long hair and all that? Liberal, tolerant, just dude.
You must forgive us for overcrowding your lovely beaches in summer.
I suppose it is a bit of revenge we take, for your clogging up our Autobahns and country roads with your caravans (I think that's "trailers" in American English) ;D

theres a game in one of PK Dick's novels (cant remember which) where they play the game using one computer to translate a phrase from english into another language, and then use a different computer to translate it back into english. like chinese whispers it never comes back the same and you have to guess what the original phrase was.
i am moving to the netherlands soon and just to let you know i have seen their mountains, but then they tend to make mountains out of molehills ;)

Hi, this is Miriam. I live in Darmstadt near Frankfurt a.M. I guess there are more German Dudes, but we just haven't met yet. Maybe it's just not that spread in Germany. I learned about Dudeism from the internet. Greetings

Hi, this is Miriam again. If anybody is interested, we might meet somewhere in Germany, enjoying watching The Big Lebowski, bowling, some drinks.. I'd be in it...
