Generation X the book

Hi Dudes,
Just wondered if anyone here liked the book Generation X, by Douglas Coupland?  It is one of my favourite books, and I have been longing to connect with other people who feel the same.

Or if you haven?t read it, I would like to encourage you to do so, as part of your Slacker Studies.  This is a degree course I am currently teaching myself, by reading all the books, and watching all the movies about slacking.  In my own life I am a mix of The Dude, Generation X, and Walter.  Yeah I know, but nobody?s perfect, I?m working on that one, with the Dude is my Role model.

Generation X is very different from The Big Lebowski.  There isn?t any swearing for a start. It?s a bit more down beat, but it does have a lot of interesting things to say.
So if you wanted to give the book a go, then we could talk about it here.

I really dig Douglas Coupland.
I've read it.

I really loved the thing he did in Spin Magazine back in the day.
Polaroids From the Dead.
It became a whole book.
But the excerpt ran in Spin.
I was working a factory job back then.
Big machines running all night.
I had time to read stuff and read that one night.
Totally ended up with that "Wow. What a great writer" vibe at the end.
The story of several groups of people who share Grateful Dead fandom.
Some gen x'ers, some hippies and some others.
They each tell their little stories.
The Dead are just a side note and unimportant to the stories.
Super great.

I agree. I've worked as an office manager (no cubicle), but a lot of that was similar. Laurence J. Peter jokingly created The Peter Principle in the late 1960s, which Peter in the movie embodies. Buddies and I find ourselves quoting from Office Space from time to time.

"Shit, no man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked saying somethin' like that, man."

And Milton... shit.... if you don't quote Milton at least once after seeing that movie, you need to watch it again!

This is a wonderful book for people who want to change their lives. I like books and texts that make good sense. These could be book reviews or good reviews. I recently found a cool resource with such materials. Good material is quality content with explanations and links to sources. I think that an educational resource should have such high-quality content.

This actor is similar to the German opera tenor Jonas Kaufmann. It seems to me that this is a shot from a staged opera project.

I liked the book as a whole. The extract from the annotation that the novel was published in 1991 was really heavy over me. And it's about American office plankton. There are no mobile, social networks, laptops and the like yet.
