You know,

"That guy" who smacks his waitress' butt.

"That guy" who cops a feel while dancing with his best friends new wife on their wedding day.

"That guy" who stiffs on a tip.

"That guy" who talks loudly to cover up cutting in line with "friends" while you have been patiently abiding for the last hour.

"That guy."  Don't be that guy.

I'm more than willing to be enlightened on this topic.

Well, man, first you have to ask yourself: "Do I want to be able to eat out and be waited on?"

Eateries of various ilk work with an incredibly low margin.  Many, many go out of business in the first 6 months.  One of the places they cut costs on is the wages of their workers.  The only way most people can afford to work as wait staff, and earn enough to survive, is with tips.  In America they are built into the system.  If they were removed the eateries would either all be buffets, or go out of business, or raise their prices.  As a confirmed foodie, I want none of those things to be the case.  How about you?

In other countries were tipping is not done, the prices are higher, and the service lacks a certain personal investment.

Now, some waiters simply suck.  I don't think tips should be a matter of course, but in the vast majority of situation I think that laying a little gratitude on the table that is going directly into the pockets of the people who actually fed me is a grand thing.

Also, I've worked that industry.  It is a very unpleasant job in many ways, the people who do it are most excellent indeed.

All of that is, ya know, just like, my opinion, man.  Take it or leave it.  8)

Lady, I got buddies that died face down in the muck so we can smack a waitress' butt in this family restaurant! Our basic freedoms!

..........I'm staying, enjoying my waitress' butt..... enjoying my waitress' butt.
