Consciencious objection.

The scene in The Big Lebowski following Walter's "OVER THE LINE" ouburst in the parking lot, where the Dude explains that Smokey was a Conscious Objector, clues us in to some of his core beliefs.

Being Dudes, do we all fundamentally object? Could/should it be a core tenent of dudeism. Some dudes are ex military, which is cool,  though the Dude does, as we know, hide behind pacifism. Where should we stand?

I believe that a non violent solution should always be priority one; There are occasions where that fails and when faced with a threat I can't overcome with words alone then I find force to be perfectly acceptable. Even the Dude swung his bowling ball at the nihilists when it came down to it. That's just in an everyday case by case basis though. In terms of war or global conflict I object to wars that are fought over resources or wars fought for profit. Protecting people from mass genocide or oppression is something I can stand behind though.

Well spotted Sage Dude, my mind was a bit too limber when I wrote that post.

Rando Dude, far out, agree totally.

It ties in with "What makes a man, Mr Lebowski?. Is it being prepared to do the right thing, no matter what the cost?".   

Well dude, we just don't know.

So,  does being conscientious, make the man? To a degree, yes, too much though, can turn you into a workaholic, (not very dudely), to find a balance is the Dude way.

Am I correct in assuming you  can be conscious with a high level of consciousness and a good moral conscience without being too conscientious?.

Sounds like some eastern thing.
