Greetings and salutations my new friends.  I'm so newly ordained, the ice cubes haven't melted in my first white Russian.  My best friend is getting married in the spring, and had already asked me to be his best man.  Now that I'm ordained, the happy couple would like me to officiate their wedding.  A double dose of "cool man".  Here's the thing, is this doable?  Can I represent, and stand in for my brother from a different mother if he should bail, and perform the ceremony at the same time?

Lotta strands in ole duders head here, are you asking if you could marry yourself to the girl should your friend bail, or if you can marry them even if he isn't present?

Sorry for the confusion.  I know he isn't going to bail.  What I need to know is can I be the best man, and officiate at the same time?  "Ok man, who has the rings?  Oh I do, cool."

I think best man duties are more ceremonial than any kind of legal thing.  As long as the happy couple is cool with you doubling the duties and it doesn't interfere with the vibe of the ceremony, I don't really see a problem there.  Make sure you do check out the sections in the forum about Wedding Ceremonies though, State to State the rules are different and what you will need to do so everything is cool and legal is different so be sure to get that business done ahead of time.  Oh, and far out man!  Cool that you can do this for your friends and be a part of their big day.

Thank you for the sage advice.  I have spoken at a few weddings in the past, and really enjoy finding the right words to fit a couple.  These two have been together for nearly ten years, and it's going to be an epic day.  So jazzed to be asked to write the words that will solidify their union.

Good luck with it dude, I can't offer any better advice than above other than don't worry about a thing, it'll be cool.

Are we talking changing robes? Or a dual purpose type deal?

Oh and welcome to the beach community, dudes, pull up some rugs, bar's over there.

Howdy-do Brother D.  Dual purpose deal.  I have (get) to do all the Best Dude duties, and officiate the proceedings on the most excellent day.  Bachelor party ideas would be helpful.
