As survivors made their way off Mount Everest on Sunday, dozens of people who were on the mountain remained missing after a deadly earthquake in the mountain country of Nepal triggered an avalanche.

At least 18 people are dead and dozens more were injured in the avalanche set off by the massive magnitude-7.8 earthquake that has left at least 3,300 dead in Nepal and neighboring countries.

Among them: Google executive Daniel Fredinburg, who was part of a Google team attempting to create a Google street map of the trek to Everest Base Camp, and Marisa Eve Girawong, an emergency room physician's assistant serving as a base camp doctor for the Seattle-based Madison Mountaineering expedition company.

The avalanche left Garrett Madison, who is the expedition company's owner, and 14 other climbers stranded at a camp farther up the mountain.

"We are running low on food and fuel and we have to get down. There's no path or route through the Khumbu icefall," Madison said in a satellite phone call posted on the company's website. "Our only option to get down is by helicopter evacuation."

My little brother (sorry he's 30 but still my little brother) is in Nepal at the moment.

I just had a call from my mother. He is fine, he is living in a refugee camp, cant get at his clothes so has been wearing the same stuff for a few days, but at least he is okay.

Glad your brother is alright!
The dad abides.

Glad he's OK!  What a terrible thing to go through.
Take 'er easy, Dudes!

Wow, messed up shit, man! So sad to see the loss of life!

Glad your brother is OK and abiding, M5 dude!

Good news your Bro is alright.
The pictures from all over Nepal are just horrible.
Apparently it's been very tough to get aid to where it's needed.
The nature of the terrain makes it so that an earthquake cuts off large areas.

Latest news on my little brother is he is now in the British Consulate awaiting flights back and beginning to post on face book again.

Good to hear it, M5; your brother abides.

Glad to hear the good news.  Well, "good" relatively speaking, but it sounds like he's well on his way back home.  I feel for the poor Nepalese suffering from this.  :(

Yeh he spent a couple of days in a refugee camp. Said it was amazing, everyone shared everything. Bought water for a family (bottles cost him three pounds, not sure the dollar equivalent probably about five dollars), and food for another, bless him.

He's now waiting to be allocated a flight back home (that our foreign office is going to charge him for). I think they just want him out of the danger area.

I think we all feel relieved for those survivors (your younger bro included M5) and deep sympathy for those who have lost loved ones. So dudely vibes go out to them and maximum respect for the help and care from rescuers, volunteers and plain good samaritans.
