About the Show

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White?s lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

The series also stars Michael McKean as Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, and Michael Mando as Nacho -- characters that will represent both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law.

Breaking Bad creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad writer and producer Peter Gould created the show together and serve as co-showrunners of the premiere season. Gilligan directed the first episode of the series, which has already been greenlit for a second season of 13 episodes. The debut season will consist of 10 episodes.

Breaking Bad quickly rose to my personal top and by the time the show ended even surpassed The Sopranos.
I could spend the next hour going over how awesome it is and why it is awesome, but why bother?

Didn't dig the Sopranos.
I wanted to. I really wanted to but I couldn't get into it. To much of a soap opera and it felt like a giant lost opportunity.
IMO it would have been great if there was more of a story arc. Struggles for leadership a good recurring police character devoted to bringing Tony down. Etc. So many possibilities and to me it just felt like a soap opera. It went nowhere IMO. It actually frustrated me and I had to stop watching it.

I like Justified a lot. Next season is stacked up to be a good one.
They set it up. Looks like Ava is set to betray Boyd in exchange for her freedom.
Or is she playing the Marshals? Gotta see how that plays.

The Sopranos IS in its way a soap opera, but for men. Or for people who appreciate gangster movies.

It didn't need to have a story arc, it was created purely to show how the life of a mob boss looks like, and that they did. It didn't go nowhere, trust me. There's a lot to think about after the ending. But to each their own I guess.

Oh yeah everybody else in the family loved it. And typically I'd be the one to like it. I love gangster movies. Goodfella's is awesome and the Godfather saga, Donnie Brasco etc. And for me that is the issue. I was frustrated that the Saprano's lacked the same sort of a overarching story. Yeah each to their own.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Whitey Bulger movie. Black Mass.

Meanwhile I highly recommend you True Detective. It's a bit slow in the beginning, but it grows on you fast and doesn't let go. And it's a finished story in 8 episodes.

The acting and the overall quailty is up to Breaking Bad standards.
Also just started watching Fargo, top notch stuff as well. Not much in common with the Cohens' movie so far, but several characters in the show are obviously based on the characters from the movie.

Breaking Bad raised the bar of quality very high for me, and tge aforementioned shows don't disappoint in this regard.

Yeah I enjoyed Fargo.
I hope they do something for a next season.
I know it was supposed to just be one run but I would think that since it was successful.... I mean they have to feed the monkey so they want more money... you know.

Breaking Bad fucking rocked.  I was totally hooked.  Apparently in an interview, Bryan Cranston was asked if the series will continue - the question being "Didn't Walter die?".  His response was - "Who says he died?".

'Nuther ones for me: Justified. Walking Dead.  I miss'em.

Yeah I'm officially Jones'ing new seasons.
The summer drought is long and I've run through all the standbys on Amazon and Netflix.
I'm thinking maybe we'll start with Ray Donovan.

Ray Donovan rocks, BikerDude - definitely give it a shot. Great ensemble cast. Solid scripting and pacing. Jon Voight's performance in season one is Shakespearian.

We've also seen a few episodes of: The Strain (so far so good), The Last Ship (a bit melodramatic), Suits (love it), Halt and Catch Fire (slow start but great potential), and Street Outlaws (my guilty pleasure and about the only "reality" show I watch).

Watched one episode of Halt and Catch Fire. It was OK. I'll probably give it a real try once it hits Amazon Prime or Netflix.

I watch reality all the time. I admit that I find myself stopping channel surfing on "Dating Naked" more and more often. It is very very bad. But it's naked. No bush not nips but hey it's naked. But it's like looking at the sun. You have to just catch a quick glimpse and look away or you could do permanent damage. It will lower your IQ.
The Biker Battle Las Vegas or whatever that one is. Chasing Classic cars (but I want to kick Wayne in the nuts), Graveyard Cars, What's in the Barn etc...

I was a huge fan of Breaking Bad and didn't discover it until almost the finale.  I had the luxury of being able to marathon just about the whole show on Netflix.  I finally felt the pain of everyone watching and waiting for the next episode a week at a time the last season.  It was painful to have to wait a whole week that last season!
