The plane was diverted from it's normal course for some unstated reason.

The pro-Russian fighters apparently don't have anything with a range over 3km.

The plane was 10km high.

The Ukrainian military downed another civilian planes a number of years ago "by mistake" (didn't know the missile launcher was loaded?).

The plane was downed just as Israel starts it's ground offensive.

Horrible, curious, and abominable in equal measure. These people (whomever they are since, at this moment, it's a bit unclear) have no moral scruples or vaguely 21st century conception of life. If this isn't cause enough to stay the fuck out of this geopolitical nightmare, I'm not sure what is.

A week later, and my head is still bowed. Can't believe the voice recorder is going to help much, but maybe the flight recorder will at least tell where impact was.

Give a man a missile launcher and he's gonna use it.
This has been going on for a long long time.

The Ukrainians mistakenly shot down a Russian plane in 2001 with a surface to air missile killing 78.
Israel shot down a Libyan airline in 1973, killed 113.
In 1983 Soviets shot down A Korean Plane Carrying A U.S. Congressman killing 269 people.
Iran Air Flight 655 shot down by a US guided missile cruiser equipped with state of the art radar. 290 killed.
