I just recently became a Dudeist and was wondering what the dudeist stance on muslims is?
I know not all of them are like the "extremists" but I learned about Islam in my religion class last semester and it seems VERY undude, like violent and extremely intolerant towards 'non-believers'.
I read that Nihilists, Nazis and Fascists (among others) are "very un-Dude" on the take it easy manifesto page and would assume that they would be included as well but since it doesn't mention them I didn't want to jump to any conclusions  :)

You can be just about anything and be a Dudeist.

Amen to that. Their are a lot of crazy folks out there that associate themselves with certain groups, but I imagine there are plenty of people in those groups who don't want that association to occur.

Be extremely wary of anything that any teacher in any religion class tells you about any other religion than the one that his/her university in based in. Like, for instance, any university in the good ol' USofA is naturally going to be a christianity based school even if it is a state school because the USofA is, and always has been, a christian nation. (Just ask the Indians).
I mean if we want to talk about a religion that is violent and extremely intolerant toward non-believers we need go no further than the catholic church. In their prime those folks made Hitler look like a Sunday school teacher.
In spite of the fact that I am, in fact, a white dude I always find it kinda odd when white folks (especially catholics) point the finger at brown folks or yellow folks or red folks and talk about how violent and intolerant toward non-believers they are.
But that's just my opinion. Or is it?

ohh i know all about how bad christians (catholic and protestant both) can be as well, christian hatred and intolerance towards others is what made me turn away from it myself and find a new path of spirituality and was the reason i took the class to learn more about other religions.
my prof was a catholic (his sister is a buddhist) and he didn't seem to have any problems taking an unbiased approach to other religions and he had us do a lot of our own research on the religions rather than just feeding us stuff from the textbooks which i thought was cool of him.
i guess it just really hit me that in the quran it tells them to be hatefull and violent towards non-muslims, i was just like "wow man, thats not cool"

oh well, fuck it man i'm goin to bjj  lol 8)

My $0.02 on the thread:

A Dude is a Dude regardless of any other ism. There are many isms, as there are many types of tools. My toolbox has hammers, screwdrivers (Phillips, flathead, torx, etc), RJ11/RJ45 crimper/stripper, pliers, needlenose pliers, and so on. My art toolbox has graphite sticks, pencils, colored pencils, conté, acrylic, willow, size 0 brushes, size 2 brushes, black ink, sepia ink, other inks, and so on.

Anyone is more than welcome to change their toolbox as they see fit. You can do a lot with a toolbox, but it's not everything. It's just that my religion toolbox is empty, as I have no religion. My friend Beth's toolbox is an incomplete toolbox she got from the Dalai Lama. My friend Samir's toolbox has five pillars. My mom's toolbox has a rosary and crucifix but she's not really held to it; she likes the carpenter more than she likes the toolbox.

I can either hang your framed picture with my hammer, or I can break your fingers. The tool is the same, but the activities are different.

Any ism in the toolbox is just an ism, but the one holding the tool is what's important.

Dudeism is an ism, but in the toolbox, it's a Swiss Army knife. It does a lot, but you have to decide how to use it.

Yeah, I've known you all your life where the hell did that come from?

Hominid

You need to frame that. Really. It's not the tool, it's what the person HOLDING he tool does with it.  But you know, appreciating that kind of insight is out of the realm of those focused on the tool.

Dudeism helps you observe all the tools from a step back. Helps you evaluate them from the 3rd person, with a view that tools are not necessary to get a job done.

K, enough analogies. "Tools" are religion. Use it to kill or heal, every religion's sacred writings support both. Dudeism is a philosophy like Buddhism or Taoism, but no attachment to any roots, people, customs, or obligations. It's like "shut the fuck up dude. Peace out. Don't judge. Don't condemn. Be good. Do no harm. Be friendly. Don't tolerate aggression. Help and support fellow dudes. Pay your rent. Brew your own beer."

OK, I made up that last one. Work though, right?
