Can city farms feed a hungry world?

There will be billions more hungry people in 2050. Growing our food on vertical farms or under radical new lighting systems may be key to ensuring they have enough to eat.

It makes use of rainwater and sunlight that otherwise goes to waste in cities, and according to a Spanish architect friend of mine, it also reduces the need for air conditioning in the building to which it is attached. The problem is, my Spanish is rubbish, and he gets very excited indeed by this idea. So I know he thinks it is a great idea and he is very excited about it, but I can't understand another damn word he says about it.

This is just another example of awesome solutions for problems on earth such as energy, food, decent housing, etc. Damned if I know why we don't implement these types of solutions world wide for all people.
