Carl Sagan was one the coolest mofo's in the science community. He was a deeply profound man who was scared of religion making science inaccessible to regular joes. His show Cosmos was an attempt to undo that, and was the most watched show of its time, due to his profundity and insight.

He showed us that Earth and humanity are very insignificant on the cosmic scale, but because of this we should cherish each other and out homeworld.

"The cosmos is also within us.  We're made of star stuff, we are a way for the cosmos to know itself."

He also smoke weed a lot, and wrote a series of essays under the pseudonym Mr. X about how great it is.
