Agitated, restless. Family found out after much frantic searching that no, I had not run in Boston this year. I had wanted to get back there but life just didn't let me get that far. Stoned right now, couldn't get drunk again. Slows me down but I feel a mess, contradictions, coming and going.

I know it's worse for the victims and families, but I don't want to trot out the usual tropes we find ourselves saying at times like this. We mean them, yeah, feel for the families and victims and hope we catch the right perp. It just feels about as genuine as a Hallmark card, like you have to say it even if you wanted to find different words for your friends and loved one.

I ran this marathon a couple times. Planned to run it one more time before I hit 40. I wonder now if I still could. I foresee many changes coming down the pike, ones that will make the journey more exhausting than it currently is. It's a party scene along the route, especially the last half, and now I fear we'll lose our party. This place will make running a marathon a chore again with all the security, rather than the fun-loving, cake-eating and beer-swilling party along the route that it was. Aye, they be Dudeists then. Those who be achievers at the front of the race are already missing out on that part of the marathon. I fear the rest of us compeers will miss out on this also and we'll lose the girls college screaming for us and entire houses feeding us as we plodded along. All because some fucking nihilist wanted to blow up trash cans and kill people.

Tired, finally tired. Can we lose a girl. The girl, she got your money. Are you sure that's-- okay, I don't have my glasses on. Why do I stay? I don't know. I'm sorry that wasn't useful. I don't get angry much but I just didn't trust that man. Admit it, she's got your gun. We gotta change him. She's got a nice deal here, but it's out of bounds. Tickle her nose. Can you look out there? My storms, I hear them ticking. I'm going to be right here.

Above was written not sober. Just so we're clear. Peace,

Boston Rockbury

I like your non-linear folow of consciousness stuff. It's a way to free the mind from the limits that it sets itself. I can probably learn somethig from that.

It's sad that people doing something free and healthy get attacked. I don't want a feeling of anger and resentment to enter my heart though. Important to resist the poison.

This is my stomping grounds, I know I have stood in those spots before, I love Boston, it is my home even since I moved to Maine I find every excuse to be down town. Never quite made it to the marathon, got cauth in the parties a couple of times on my way.

My focus is on the heroes, there are always more of them than villains, there is always more courage than fear, always more love than hate, that's what I see. This is a time when our comedians, supposed funny men, come out with the most empathetic logics. I point now to Patton Oswalt and backwards to Jon Stewart.

QuoteBoston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will." Patton Oswalt
