    First Firefox phones revealed by Mozilla and Geeksphone   



Mozilla has published details of the first smartphones to be powered by its Firefox operating system.

Two handsets are to be made by a small Spanish firm called Geeksphone and will be targeted at developers ahead of the system's formal launch.

The platform is based on the HTML5 web programming language and is being marketed as offering software writers more "freedom" than alternatives.

That's the way it happens.
Once a product becomes established it becomes invested in technology.
And while others pursue a different path established companies are tied to their core business.
The competition comes from somewhere else and spreads into their area and they get left holding onto an outdated platform.
Apple should be fine for now because they have dominated in mobile. But IMHO they are making the same mistakes they did in the pc market. High priced complete hardware and software products that eventually get displaced by cheaper things that get better and better till there is little or no advantages in buying the more expensive apple product.
PC's are virtually gone and the mobile market is going to take more and more of it's pudding.
Microsoft will likely end up a giant hippo mired in the muck. But that will be slow and steady.
