Something I found interesting while trapped in Las Vegas (Nevada, that is) a few years ago: Most of the people milling around in the Albertson's supermarket were engaged with their phones, but when we went to the yuppier Whole Foods it was very unusual to see it. It's like now that everyone has a mobile phone they're uncool so the yupsters don't want to be seen using them in public. It's a start, I suppose.
